SOC vs Dallas Samuel

Last week I was talking to my Grandson about how SOC was going to play the one team (Samuell) that could possibly give them a run for the money. And now for this to come out just before their game against Samuell. SMH

There’s only one way to fix the transfer problem. It has to be “you transfer, you sit for one season.” That might cause some problems, but not near as many as trying to police every move. And, it forces you to REALLY need to move , not just have some mysterious “I need to move and it’s definitely not for football” reason.

Yet no-one’s looking into SOC.
And they openly advertise players coming in from other states. Pretty obvious.
Yep! Their starting QB is Reggie McNeal Jr, son of former A&M QB Reggie McNeal. He was at one of the Katy ISD schools his Fresh/Soph years, Houston Heights last year, and now SOC for his Senior year. But, all the “school hopping” has NOTHING to do with FOOTBALL though…a 3+ star ATHLETE just picked up and “relocated” to SOC for “educational” reasons! Mmmkkkaaayyy

I agree but may need to have mitigating circumstances for pre-approval.
Sometimes the family providers just have to move for employment reasons or death in family etc.

Yeah, sometimes that true. And if that’s true, it’s obviously more important than football. And, if we can have kids living “with relatives” to transfer to new schools, they can do the same when their family moves and stay at their old school. Or, football isn’t the most important thing in life and they can deal with that.

100% agree

Sorry
You have to miss football

Or you can live with a friend for a semester at your existing school then transfer for the spring semester to your new school.

Sorry
That’s life
Either that or it will quickly get out of control

Like Carthage
(Allegedly)
With small duplex apt buildings that have a few vacancies for 300 pounders to live with their mothers who just happened to get jobs at the Tyson chicken plant.
Or in natural gas
But he moves em (allegedly) from the 30-60 mile radius their 8th grade years

He knows who the 7th graders in Marshall or Elisian Fields are
But they can still technically live in their home towns
Their parents just are “separated” for a while ha
(Allegedly)

But the difference is
Since Carthage is a dynasty
These parents will do anything needed to have their kids play at Carthage
So the parents themselves are moving the family mailing addresses early in the game
Without any effort (at this point) from the coaching staff

And granted Surratt is one of the greatest offensive minds on the planet I’ve known him since about 12-14
And went to college “with” him (at the same time) friendly guy but the most competitive person I’ve ever met
He literally recruited “retired” basketball and baseball players at the college to play on his intermural football team (he himself played baseball) and got a sponsorship from the local baseball card shop (Yogi’s) to have black jerseys made. Lol
I know I’ve shared this a number of times (deal wit’ it lol JK) but that fire makes him successful ( most people don’t know about his Texas High state title (in convincing fashion as OC in 2002.

I say all that to say
It’s not ALL recruiting at Carthage

Most families move there on their own to play football
I believe Katy calls themselves the "City of Champions" for a reason. Success breeds success.
However I think this by itself is a rather shallow mentality.
I don't want us to be a copycat of Katy or any other.

You won’t believe what comes out of the mouths of cheaters from corrupt school officials and administrators.

Crazy Happenings in DISD....SOC got the 2-0 forfeit Win
Word on the street is this: Samuell's coach (not sure if he was fired but I know he wasn't coaching towards the end of the season) was the DC at Cedar Hill (6A) last season. Allegedly, he brought over some "recruits" from CH when he came to Sam. Not sure what the backstory is on how this was brought to light but given that CH was really good last year (state quarterfinals I believe) and is down this year and Sam was having a renaissance season this year the puzzle pieces start to line up. The shame of it is that it appears this coach was having a real impact (recruiting notwithstanding). Sam didn't have a JV team the last few years (DISD nonsense doesn't help) and he was able to beat the bushes and put one together this year.

This really goes back to what a mess DISD is. It's basically SOC and a bunch of JV teams. DISD policy is that students can't move between DISD schools for athletic purposes even though the district is open enrollment. It's an open secret that the policy is ignored so SOC gets to choose between about 50,000 male students for football along with the other shenanigans.

I know a former DISD middle school coach who quit in part because he'd get so much heat from the HS coaches about not delivering enough players up to the HS level. The issue is that if they weren't good enough for SOC many would just quit.

To be clear, no one is moving into DISD for educational purposes. I'm sure there are a ton of great and dedicated educators in DISD but the district is a mess.

That was the rule through the 1969-1970 school year. No exceptions.

Then in a few years we'll be back to where we are now. Starting fall 1970 seniors were allowed to play at another school IF thefamily MOVED into another district. A return to that rule would help.

In the 60s and 70s the story goes that Odessa Permian (OP) recruited oil field roustabouts that just happened to be fathers with talented sons. Orgins of Friday Nights Lights.
It can happen at anytime and any where when adult integrity and morals are sacrificed for a transient goal. OP has never really recovered and their football program is a shell of its former self. Add in there were times when falling crude prices in the world resulted in Permian Basin operations being shuddered and a lost in local jobs.

PNGISD is always focused on what is good for all students. It is quite a testimonial to the moral fiber of our leaders and communities that have subtained us through thick and thin. I remember when Texaco and Gulf used to employ 4000 workers a piece. We continued to reinvent and progress while some surrounding communities
do not have the answers and leadership to over come.
