Talk about tradition and impressive football, here we are in 2021 and S’ville is playing for another state championship today.

This is their second state championship appearance since 1999. They won it in 2012.

Speaking of 1999, a player from that era is their head coach. Sterling Doty. A few players here played against Doty.

What are they feeding their kids in Stephenville? They are big, fast and powerful. Must be something in the water there.

Their best linebacker power cleans 375 pounds and is playing today with a hairline fracture in his leg. And he’s out there hitting like a cement truck.

This is an urban school, Austin LBJ, versus a small town school battle. The farmers kids are winning convincingly so far. I think Stephenville gains some advantages by spending a lot of time in the weightroom.

Lot of changes going on in Stephenville right now. It was no bigger than Port Neches when we met them in 1999. Today, it’s a town of more than 21K. Since Tarleton was moved into the Texas A&M system, the state legislature has been pouring money into that campus - $90 Million last session alone - and they’re starting to pick up DFW expats to boot. Also helps when you’ve got a statewide elected official living in your backyard. Stephenville now is about where Aledo was ten years ago.

That’s why PNG needs pump money and structures to attract people to move to area. We can’t even raise money to build indoor training facility. Parents are going to move to where there kids have the best opportunities.

I read somewhere that he was having trouble dropping the ball over a d-line that averaged about 6-6” and their fast dbacks that game. It was still a heck of a season and came back to within 10 points in that game.

Yes, they were beasts and it seemed like every one of their players were fast despite their size. No matter how much film you watch, nothing compares to living it out in the field. What we lacked in size and speed we made up for in heart and grit. Honor, Pride, and Tradition still meant something to us back in the day!
