The Game To Watch This Week

In my opinion, one of the most telling games that will take place this week is Livingston at Silsbee. I realize using teams you've played as measuring sticks against other teams that play them is far from a foolproof method, but Silsbee has played both PN-G and Lumberton so far. PN-G won, 21-20, and Lumberton got shut out, 41-0. If Livingston loses by a fair margin (whether or not that will happen is debatable), that could signal a smoother road to the playoffs.

Livingston has played College Park, a 5A school out of The Woodlands, and Dayton so far, both of which are good competition. They lost to College Park, 39-21, and then to Dayton, 28-13.

Silsbee also beat another team from our district besides Lumberton. On Sept. 7th they beat LC-M 40-37.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Anyone know how LC-M fairs talent wise?

I know Vidor, Nederland, Ozen and Central have some talent, as do we. Just kinda wondering how the top 4 may stack up in respect to the playoffs?

LC-M's running back has already commited to Texas A&M. That's pretty talented

LCM is a dark horse. They can put up points. Don't know much about their D though. Their offense can move the ball well.

You're right. They did, and I completely spaced on that.

LC-M is another team to watch. They've got a ground game.

I'm impressed that we put 2 touchdowns on WOS...when other teams could'nt. We may have lost bigtime...but we got those touchdowns. ;D

Speaking of WO-S and their two shutouts this year, one team that has had a rocky preseason is Central. They started off strong and almost beat a Memorial team they caught off guard, but then turned around and stumbled against West Brook and WO-S (their loss to WO-S could have easily been much worse; looks like the WO-S offense just couldn't get any momentum). This could be like last year where they had lots of talent with plenty of potential but poor execution.

Do we have Central at home this year? Could make a difference.

I agree the 2 TD's on WO-S is a positive and i think playing the preseason teams that we played will benefit us greatly.

I also think because we have lost the last 2 games by large margins...everyone has pretty much written us off...this could be good and to our advantage. If what has been said is true...that Coach Faircloth doesnt open playbooks before district and our 1st 2 games should be fairly easy wins without us having to give away to much insight into our playbook...when we get to the meat of our schedule we could take them by surprise.

my junior year we lost our 2nd game of the year then won 27 in a row including a State Championship in 75 and a loss in the Semi-finals in 76. Ethridege harped on everyone writing us off and the phrase of the rest of the year was "Ya gotta believe" and we did. Don't know BF personally but gives the impression of being "Ethridge like"

Silsbee defeated Livingston, 43-32.

Also, LC-M downed 3A #4 Coldspring-Oakhurst tonight in a shocker at Bears Stadium, 35-20. Despite that, I think it's more than fair to say that Lumberton, LC-M, Central and Livingston are all well within our reach. If we can get on a roll, this team will make the playoffs.

Vidor is probably going to come down to how we can stop the running game. We were very well-prepared for it last year and led Vidor 22-0 going into the fourth quarter. A combination of our defense and our offense's ability to capitalize on Vidor's mistakes completely killed their momentum early in that game and they almost seemed too stubborn to adjust their offense for three quarters of regulation. They didn't put a single WR in until they brought in their backup QB, who led Vidor to both of the touchdowns they scored in the last ten minutes or so of the game and he seemed to have a much better arm than Quirante, who only had two or three pass attempts, all of which fell incomplete. If Vidor plays a similar game this year and we can improve our run defense between now and then, the results could be similar.

That is, assuming that the rumors aren't true and none of Vidor's players have quit.
