The Master's Requirement

What is the purpose of this? Is it a state requirement to have a master's in an administrator position? Is it a PNGISD policy? Is it for grins and giggles? I have now been told all three things. So which one is it?

I would think that to be on the administrators pay grade and for (225+) day contract that masters would be required...I am just guessing...

To get the pay up with other school districts that have high salaried AD positions, PNGISD would have to head towards the AD type position so the coach would get appox. 35-45 more days on his contract which in turn would give the pay raise...

Just a thought I guess....I am actually for the requirement this go round...Some schools I wouldnt be but for this type of a school district I think its a good idea...JMO...

Ok, do all peopel in administrative positions have master's in PNGISD

Depends on what you mean by that. Anyone that is an assistant principal or above must have a master's. I'm not sure about other administrators like maintenance or transportation (although I think Mr. Curl may be over transportation). I work for a larger district, so there is a lot that is different.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but did not all these coaches have Masters Degrees?

Ken Watson
Doug Ethridge
Butch Troy
Danny Malone
Tim Owen

The only one I am not sure about is Malone. Watson was in adminstration post football, I confirmed Ethridge and Troy in the '83 War Whoop, Tim Owen I believe is a principal in Magnolia ISD.

My point is that the district is returning to where it was prior the MB years. No big deal really.

I support the choice of a Masters required....Brings the status of the position to administrator level pay grade and will help attract the bigger salary guys...

I still havent seen many people post who they really think will be some of the top runners now that we know the requirements....Anyone????

I did receive confirmation today that Calallen's Phil Danaher will be presented to the selection committee. I spoke to Coach Danaher this afternoon to let him know as well.
WOW! I hope this is true. If it is, there would be no need to look any farther. If he is really interested we need to do whatever it takes to get him. Anyone who knows anything about Texas High School Football knows that this a quality person. Not only is he the best active coach in Texas, he is the kind of person I would want leading or coaching my kids(even though too late for that they are grown) on and off the field. What he has done at Calallen is awesome, and he did it with the same type athletes as the Mid County schools have.
