Time for some fun speculation as the 2023 season winds down and positioning of the 4 playoff spots goes into high gear. The only thing certain is that anything can happen, but here's one fan's projection.

Projected Finish, Team, Remaining Opponents, Projected 3-game record, Projected Final District Record
1. PN-G - Santa Fe, Nederland, Galena Park - (3-0), (7-0)
2. TC - Dayton, Santa Fe, Nederland - (3-0), (6-1)
3. FB Marshall - FBW, Galena Park, Dayton (2-1), (4-3)
4. Nederland - Galena Park, PN-G, Texas City - (1-2), (4-3)

On the outside looking in?
Dayton - Texas City, FBW, FBM (2-1) (4-3) - loses tie breaker to FBM and Ned

Nederland at Texas City should be a good game. For fun, let's say PN-G wins out, Nederland defeats Texas City, and FBM beats Dayton. The final standings would be:
1. PN-G, 9-1, 7-0
2. Texas City, 8-2, 5-2
2. FBM, 8-2, 5-2
2. Nederland, 5-5, 5-2

How would that tie-breaker work? FBM beat Nederland, Texas City beat FBM, and Nederland beat Texas City. Points? Coin flips? Something else?

Probably point differentials. And if that doesn’t work, maybe a coin flip. Burnett flipped a coin one year and lost. No playoffs that season. Let’s jump into the wayback machine again…

I now in a past district we went by coin flip when all other conditions were met

Looking at the district standings, it's really struck me how much more complete this Indians squad looks than the rest of district.

Statistically, FBM's defense is comparable, if not slightly better, than PN-G's, but the Indian offense is worlds better than its Buffalo counterpart. Likewise, Dayton's offense is actually better than PN-G's on paper, but their defense isn't even in the same category is the Indian D. The only team that has performed comparably to PN-G on both sides of the ball is Texas City.

I realize that strength of schedule is a factor and that PN-G had a substantially tougher predistrict schedule than any of its district foes. That, if anything, only reinforces my point. Through seven games, the Indians have indisputably made the best showing of any of the other teams in one of the toughest districts in the 5A classification. This is no time to count unhatched chickens, but it makes me a little more bullish regarding our playoff prospects.

Time to finish strong, boys.
