I would have to agree about Permian, but I don't know how well their fans travel when they're in the playoffs anymore. I may have to do some research...interesting topic!

Schools with large fan bases:

Katy
Plano
Odessa Permian
Southlake Carroll
Euless Trinity
Tyler John Tyler
Austin Westlake
Houston Yates (when they are in the playoffs)

I'm not saying one's better than the other ... but, those schools have historically had solid fan bases that travel well. I do know this ... when the PN-G Indians are really good and they get into the Regionals, Quarters, Semis, and Finals, there is not a better fan base on the planet. When the Indians play in the Regionals, Quarters, Semis, and Finals, you need a stadium that holds 35,000+ fans. And, when the Indians are on a roll, the Indian fans will travel anywhere to see Tribe tee-it-up and play ball. There is a reason why the UIL and other schools like to schedule PN-G ... the fans will travel and there is money to be made.

Go Indians. Peace.

PN-G is at the top. We out travelled Permian, Plano and Katy in state championship games. And I've seen SLC, Westlake on TV. PN-G is the best high school football experience in the state. I can't compare to the nation because I've never seen any out of state HS games.

And if you could have seen a game back when the band was twice as large, you would have been blown away.

Wait a few years. It'll be there again.

I would be curious to see how well SLC travels. I know they packed Texas Stadium 2 yrs back vs Euless Trinity, but that was essentially a home game. If they make it to the finals this year, I would be curious how many show up in Houston for the game. They are pretty rabid fans themselves are accept nothing less than perfection given their recent history. I do think, however, that we would out number them in a game given the same travel distance (ie over 3 hours).

I remember back when I was in HS (I went to TJ) and we played PNG, there was nothing like watching halftime and seeing the band take up the WHOLE football field and the Indianettes lineup almost from 20 to 20 yardline. I also loved all the props they used to use. The colored paddles, the colored hoop things and everything else they used to use. It was a sight that is for sure.

This only schools I have ever seen then those mentioned are out of state in Tulsa OK. There are 2 schools Jinks & Union that when they play it is held at the University of Tulsa stadium. I was up there on buisness one year and went, made MCM look like nothing. These teams are always nationally ranked, look them up some time. Bascially all the kids wind up at OU, OSU & UT. Inside Texas no body beats PNG!

Check the recent news on Jenks and there coach!!! Seems they have been bringing in kids from around the country and setting them up, so to speak.

We lived in Southlake back during the Dane Johnson and coach Ledbetter days. They had great fans, but not a big fan base. I am sure now that they have grown and have created the "Dragon Mystic" that the DFW interest is tremendous, but I know if they played in Houston or SA the numbers would not be near as big as when they play in the DFW.

I watched a few of SLC's state championship games that were televised. Their following was not all that impressive.

PNG has the best fan base bar none. Why do you think we are so envied? We have had some good years with winning seasons. But it's not the winning season that that everyone is so jealous of. IT'S THE FAN BASE !

What school has fans that leave town at 4 a.m., arrive at Texas A&M at 8 a.m. and stand in the rain for a 3 p.m. game? What school has fans that leave town at 6 a.m., arrive at the Astrodome at 8 a.m. for an 8 p.m. game? What school has fans that arrive at Stephen F. Austin at noon, stand in the cold rain for several hours for a 7:30 p.m. game that gets postponed for lighting and finally starts at 10:30 p.m. and lasts until well after midnight? What school has fans that take off work using vacation time, go to the doctor at 7:45 a.m. with 100.3 degree fever, gets a shot, goes by Walgreens for antibiotics, leaves for Thorne Stadium at 10 a.m. for an 8 p.m. game?

My sister and I have been the fans in all of the above situations and many more. I didn't have the privilege of being able to attend either of the state championship games in the '70's because I had to work But I attended many of the playoff games prior to those games Going to the Brenham game sick was not the smartest thing I've done in my life. But being in the hospital would have been about the only thing that would have kept me away from that game last week.

I remember the game at A&M like it was y'day..driving there in the rain hoping it would stop. I agree that we have the best fan base and traditions. I'm gonna try to go to the SLC game this Friday at SMU...obviously not a travel game, but we will see what kind of support they bring for this one. 2 yrs ago, they might have filled 3/4's of SMU's stadium for the game against that team from Miami. I would be curious so see what kind of support they would have for a sub-par or even average team that makes the playoff's, but isn't a state or nationally ranked team like they have had in the past 8 to 10 yrs. Todd Dodge from PA used to be there coach until he went to UNT after his son graduated.

During the Astrodome years, I remember sneaking into the bathroom and hiding in the bathroom until the doors "officially" opened so we could sit in the same place every game. Spouses were always first in the doors, but was worried about being out run. Also, when we won state we were so early that morning (went the day before) that the guard asked me if my friend and I would help him guard the entrances until his back-ups arrived. I graciously (lol) said "sure, but can we put our coats on our seats first?" Needless to say, we had the best seats in the house! In 1999, I showed two of the players mothers how to get in and look around Kyle Field. The head coach, Slocum, was such a nice man. ;D I could tell lots more stories about getting to see the Indians, but I'd better shut up! :-X

Some fans even rack up frequent flier miles to see the games ;)

Lord knows the Continental Express jet into SE Tx Regional airport has made alot of money off of me for PN-G games alone.
