Dave Campbell's - 2025 TXHSFB 5A Playoff Projections

Still might see some surprises, but this looks likely. Marshall won’t beat Texas. They barely beat Mount Pleasant, 7-3.

Huntsville’s RB runs as hard as any high school back you’ll see this year. And he’s fast. Feed him the ball and control the clock.

Huntsville coaches would do well to review their offensive strategy. They did not help the Hornet cause last Friday by going away from their strength.

Huntsville will have to get a lot better with run defense to deal with SOC. And they’ll need to avoid deep passes as much as possible. But if they respond to last week’s loss the way PNG responded to our PAM loss in 2023, they have a very high ceiling. And they have the athleticism, speed, and coaching to surprise a lot of people.

Huntsville suppose to have a D1 college prospect tight end #28 Jerious Singletary 6ft4 and 225 lbs. Huntsville coaches haven’t game plan to use him.

Nice work.
Nacogdoches is 4-1 with only lost coming to 5AD1 Lufkin. Hire a new HC last year. Prior to his hire Nacogdoches was 7-24 in prior three years.

I can see Nacogdoches finishing second or third in their district. Marshall must have lost one or more key players to trail Mt Pleasant 0-3 at halftime and win 7-3 last week.

Texarkana plays Marshall this week. will learn a lot about both teams regarding potential bi-district foes.

Yes, we have seen him for the last few years. He is a good looking player and contributes to their offense. Huntsville's offense is loaded with lots of experienced players who have been on varsity for 3 and 4 years now. They are a solid team.

It is noteworthy that the Indians were able to play much improved in the 2nd half and win that game. Great job by the coaches and players.

Bi-district foe is almost certainly Nacogdoches. (The breakdown below assumes district 7 uses a head-to-head tie breaker when two teams have same record. They use points when there’s a three-way tie but I don’t know what system they use).

Current standings:
Texas (seed locked)
Marshall (seed locked)
Mt. Pleasant (3-2) (next opponent: Hallsville)
Nacogdoches (3-2) (next opponent: Texas)
Hallsville (2-3) (next opponent: Mt. Pleasant)

Scenario 1 (most likely): Mt. Pleasant beats Hallsville, Texas beats Nacogdoches.
1-4 will be as listed above.

Scenario 2: Hallsville beats Mt Pleasant, Texas beats NCD
This is where it gets hairy. The 3-5 would have the same 3-3 record, with offsetting losses (Mt Pleasant loss to Hallsville, Hallsville loss to NCD, NCD loss to Mt Pleasant). In that case they use some kind of points system. No idea what it is. But, in the only two matchups of this trio that have actually happened: MTP beat NCD by 27, and NCD beat Hallsville by 1.

Scenario 3: Mt. Pleasant beats Hallsville, NCD beats Texas

1-4 will be as listed above (mt. Pleasant has head-to-head win over NCD)

Scenario 4 (least likely): Hallsville beats Mt. Pleasant, NCD beats Texas
Texas,
Marshall,
NCD (3-3)
Hallsville (3-3)
Mt. Pleasant (3-3) (out of playoffs)

The game to watch in District 6 is Ennis v Corsicana.

Current standings:
Terrell (undefeated, plays 2-4 Mesquite Poteet)(locked)
Midlothian Heritage (6-1 with loss to Terrell, plays Kaufman)(locked even with loss because of h2h)
Ennis (4-2 with losses to Terrell and MH, plays Corsicana)
Crandall (3-3 with losses to Terrell, MH, and Ennis, plays winless Greenville)
Corsicana (3-3 with loss to Crandall, plays Ennis)

If Ennis beat Corsicana and Crandall beats Greenville (likely), standings stay the same.

If Corsicana beats Ennis and Crandall beats Greenville, Crandall moves to third and Corsicana moves to 4th.

If Corsicana beats Ennis and Crandall loses to Greenville, Corsicana moves to third, Ennis moves to fourth, and Crandall drops out.

If we make it to the 2nd round, our opponent is likely to be whoever finishes 3rd in district 6. Most likely is Ennis or Crandall.

Our third round opponent is most likely either Midlothian Heritage or Texas. MH already beat Texas in pre-season and they likely play again in the 2nd round (unless Lake Creek beats Texas in the 1st round).

Our second round opponent is set. It will likely be Ennis, simply because they play a Dallas ISD team not named SOC in the first round, and we play the winner of that matchup. So, our first three rounds are Ncogdoches (most likely), then Ennis, then either Midlothian Heritage or Texas High. One game at a time, of course, but that’s who we have to get through to make the quarterfinals.
