Spring Practice

Purple Team had #32 Byron Nichols a junior at one MLB. #35 Evan Poole a junior at the other MLB.
White Team had #25 Nathan Matute a Junior at one MLB. #32 Jude Stewart a sophomore at the other MLB.
White # 24 Baylen Valcin was a sure tackler in third and long downs last year. He’s bulked up looks more like a LB then a SS in spring game. Ball hawk in the secondary.
I have been high on Valcin since he came over from basketball, I think he has the potential to be an absolute game changer for us if he plays to his full potential. His ball awareness is top notch. I know his dad was a D1 cb, I’m sure he is teaching him all the tricks of the trade when playing in the secondary.

Good Article about Transfers

Open districts should automatically play 6A, and transfers for any player should be subjected to a state-level (instead of a district) review. I don’t think a player should have to sit just because they moved, but the move needs to be supported by actual evidence of an actual move-in for non-football reasons.

Good Article about Transfers

Also I think a huge point that is missed here is districts with no zoning rules. My understanding is there are several, such as Dallas ISD, and other major metros. If you live anywhere within the district map, you can attend any school within the ISD. The PAPF do nothing in these areas because every coach making up the local review board works for the same district. We’ve even heard with their own mouths stating they get pencil whipped. I’m not sure if Dallas is but I’ve also heard others are completely open enrollment, where there are no geographical restrictions what so ever. I just feel like there are so many common sense flaws in the current system. In example, if a player claims better educational opportunities as the reason, it isn’t hard to compare thee previous school’s academic benchmarking to the new schools, if the new school is lower then it should be declined, how is that not obvious? If the family moves that shouldn’t be difficult to prove, copy of a mortgage/lease and a utility bill. There are probably hundreds of legitimate moves and transfers, but there is probably equal if not more fraudulent ones that would take about 15 minutes of research to disprove. I think the same level of scrutiny should be applied to all schools regardless of size, demographics or location. I hate to propose anything more bureaucratic, but the current system sucks, lol. I saw Stepp float the idea of a system where open districts automatically play 6A or atleast up a division. I don’t know what the fix is, but it needs to be fixed. When local papers are writing articles on the regular about FBS commits transferring and it isn’t the NCAA portal something has got to give.

Pre-season Rankings

I may be wrong, but I think SOC might take a slight step back this year. Losing their DC, Kyle Ward, is a big loss. SOC has other great coaches, but he was the best of the best on that staff. He will move up the college coaching ranks and be a DC. He was SOC's version of PN-G's greatest DC, Coach McDaniel. SOC has talent, but the defense may be out of sync due to the loss of Coach Ward. We'll see. I would still put money down that SOC will win Region II, but they may not be the old SOC when it comes down to the final four teams in the semi-finals.

Pre-season Rankings

Apparently Liberty Hill has connections.
Yeah, I just get a good laugh about LH’s “shenanigans” cause it’s fairly OBVIOUS what’s going on when BOTH teams that have knocked them out of the playoffs the last 4 years were “coincidentally” deported to the other side of the bracket during realignment and ranking them ABOVE Brenham…SERIOUSLY? :p

The Father-Son Duos Who Forever Changed TXHSFB

Port Neches-Groves is proud of their adopted community leader and football coach. Hoping he never leaves us. Also proud to see Coach Gary Joseph when he comes to support the Indians on his off days. Last time I saw him he was standing in the long line with other Indian fans waiting for the gates to open. He and Mrs Jospeh were decked out in purple. Thank you to the Jospeh family for all the joy you’ve brought to Port Neches, Groves and Katy TX. And to all Indians and Tigers alumni and fans across the state, country and world.

Jackson Faul

2026 Indians

After hearing teams claim how their passing game was drastically improved by 7-7 participation, it really feels like it would be a great move. Gholke, Jackson and Benkert are talented receivers. Freshman QB West has been described as having a ‘gun slinger’ arm. And Ashworth has already proven to be a promising QB option. Any chance to keep the passing game at or above the 2025 level, combined with Tyson Henry’s return would maximize the potency of the 2026 offense. An offense designed to keep the best opposing defenses guessing what is coming next. Wouldn’t that be great. And the way to advance further and win it all.
Hope Coaches can find a spot on the field for West either as a receiver or perhaps a safety. He was impressive as the tall, quick, strong arm shortstop on the baseball team. Sitting on the sidelines as a backup QB would be a waste of talent.

DCTFX Article

This feels like success. The primary goal of this web site has always been to provide fellow alumni and fans with a place to go on the web to follow and celebrate PNG. To get our purple fix.

Followed closely by a plan to influence and promote PNG football to the world. (Maybe that was always the evil plan.)

Not saying it’s the ultimate site out there, but pngindians.com may very well be the pinnacle of what a high school team can have re a web site. Thank you all for the parts you have played to help the efforts. Any additional ideas are always welcome.

This DCTF author obviously used the website to gather much of his information. Even though he missed the mark on some facts. Regardless, happy to see it.

Now if I can only find a way to reach more PNG fans and increase use. And also improve the content. I haven’t done any major changes in years. Once retired in a few years, with more time to focus, it will transform into what it can ultimately be. And also be transitioned in an optimal way for a future generation to more easily inherit the work. Perhaps with tools and technologies in mind for the ISD media programs to utilize. (With the district’s educational oversight hopefully.) I need more historical data in the meantime.
