#3 Port Neches-Groves 27, #9 Port Arthur Memorial 35

I’m honestly shocked we came away with just a one TD loss in this game - these kids have some fight in them. Could have laid down and quit when Memorial was up 3 scores, but they clawed back to make it a game. Memorial is good - may be the best team we play in the regular season. Sloppy mistakes made, but to be expected for a first game. Silver lining is coach has a lot of good film on us to work on.

This is only the first game of the season, y’all. Take away 1–2 of those big mistakes, and it’s a whole different ball game. PAM is always going to be fast, strong, and physical, and they gave us a great test early in the season. Plenty to build on from here.

Yes, we need some improvement. But look at how young these guys are, a lot of juniors on the roster. We can learn a lot from this game and with the coaches we have and players we will improve and be ready for next week. Thanks to all the coaches and players for all your hard work and long hours.

Guys, we lost 50-15 to Memorial in the 2022 season opener. We played in Dallas three and a half months later.

We lost 24-7 to Memorial in the 2023 season opener. We didn't lose another game the rest of the season and finished with a state title.

Memorial is a big, physical, talented team that always gets up to play against us. They are excatly the kind of predistrict opponent we need to play to know what we need to work on. It is far, far too early in the season to assume doom and gloom because we're losing to Memorial by multiple scores just like we did the last time we won state.

Amazing. We have hoped for some type of coaches show for many, many years. Excellent job. But not surprised given the great talents of James Ware and Greg Picazo. Both are true media professionals as is Mike Tobias. The PNG Nation should be grateful for these leaders and experts in their crafts.
And the sponsor support is great. It shows you what a coordinated effort can achieve in the top football community in Texas.

And what a blessing to have Coach Jeff Joseph at the helm. A great human being. And coach Matt McDaniel heading up the defense. What a warrior. Both are well on their way to being PNG legends. Finally, thanks to coach Todd Dodge for responding to the email that was sent with hope and a dream. It didn’t turn out exactly as imagined, but it probably turned out to be something better, one of the greatest coaching staffs in the state.

The dedication and influence of PNG alumni, across the state and nation, extends far and wide.

As PNG enters the 2026 football season can’t be but filled with some Anxiety. The 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 successes were outstanding by coaches, players, band, spirt groups and fans. Can never take success for granted.

As a fan I see this as a pivotal year. In PNG’s rich football history the season and state playoff successes have not extended beyond three and four year stretches.

The 1953,1954, and 1955 glory days were followed by the 1974,1975, 1976, and 1977 outstanding seasons. The following 1978-1983 years were barren at 30-28-2 under Ethridge’s last years followed by a complete collapse in 1984-1988 years of 12–35-2. Again cannot take success for granted.

I have faith in our PNG coaches and players to work hard and dedicate themselves to succeed. The fan support will be there. A continued success in the season and playoffs in 2026 will begin a new streak of excellence in PNG football legacy.

I really like this post. And I don't think we are going to see a drop off like that in this era but I have to admit that I wonder about it. Still, I think our current staff is one of the best in our great state.

Our lines aren't as big but we have the skill positions like I've never seen. These predistrict games will tell us a lot but not everything. I want a trip to Dallas for Christmas

The players for PNG and the surrounding area have a hard time getting their name out there. I have followed and written about high school football since 1999 when I attended Northshore high-school. And honestly loved it since I played football at C.E. King. My pan this year will be to focus on local talent and using some of my contacts to get their name out there more. That being said, I can’t just throw everyone out there. There are only so many people you can present without watering down the work of that makes sense. I am looking to get into contact with local couches and want to talk with them about who on their team is looking to go the the next level AND who they think has the right skills/talent/mind to do so.

All that to say, does anyone know a way to get something I write up into the hands of the couches to see if they are interested? Even if it’s just an email?

I want the talent here to start getting some of that ⭐️ rankings.

IMO, our area has been quietly under represented for a long time by all media including local. I think it's time for an entirely new representation be created.

This season will test the OC and OL coaches abilities. DCTXHS Stepp is predicting a SOC vs PNG state championship game based on PNG’s exceptional offensive skill players. PNG OC demonstrated in last year’s LaPorte game how to utilize these offensive play makers. Focus will be on the OL.
PNG has the very best DC and defensive coaches in the state. PNG has an experienced secondary, OLBs and NT returning. Score often and quick.
