Is this the best format for playoffs

In 2004 the PNG softball and baseball teams both made it to the state tournament and i decided to attend both. Upon arriving I discovered I could purchase an all tournament pass for both the softball tournament and the Dell Diamond venue of the baseball tournament (some of the baseball games are played at Disch-Falk) and watch all the games for not much more than the price for the single PNG games. I enjoyed it so much that I went to both tournaments every year for the next 10 years, when it became too physically challenging to go to the softball tournament due to aging and other physical disabilities. I attended the baseball tournament every year for an additional 5 years, but when it resumed after covid i could no longer handle Dell Diamond either. For any baseball fan that is able to attend either tournament, it is well worth it!!!!

Is this the best format for playoffs

Mixed bag IMO. I like the sequence of best of three series’ better than the sequence of mini tournaments (regionals, super regionals, double elimination cws) leading up to the championship game. However, once you get to the championship a best of three series like in college is much better IMO than a single do or die game, particularly since the semifinal is also a single do or die. However, they will probably never do it that way due to it causing two many games with all the various divisions etc. particularly since they are now splitting many of them into D1 and D2.
Just found out that starting this year (think i found out previously but forgot) the semifinals are no longer a single do or die game but are best of three unless both coaches agree to a single game. IMO this is much better than the way it was previously done. Additionally, those games are no longer held at Dell Diamond (or Disch-Falk) but will be at various neutral sites like the rest of the playoffs. Although I think the latter change is worth it for the change to a best of three, I have to admit that I am glad I got to watch numerous semifinal games at Dell Diamond for a number of years.

An additional advantage of the change is that now ALL of the state championship games will be played at Dell Diamond (none at Disch-Falk).

5A-D2 Regional Finals: PN-G vs Kingwood Park

I am obviously late to chime in on this thread. I have been very busy the last few weeks.

I hated seeing the boys go down, especially after such a successful season. They came out of the gates firing on all cylinders in the first game and the scoreboard reflected that. But, they looked tired late in the second game and that fatigue seemed to hang over into the third game. The scoreboard seemed to reflect that, too.

I was afraid going in it wasn't a good idea to double up the first two games on that Friday. I get that graduation was Thursday night and had to be accommodated. Still, I think the lesson learned is to double up on Saturday next time. The other team seemed to have more depth, particularly on the pitcher's mound, and I think that carried the day for them. In a situation like that, our best bet is to keep our troops as fresh as we can. This is not intended as a criticism of anyone, just a suggestion for similar situations in the future.

Congratulations to the players and coaches on a fantastic season. This year clearly brought our best overall performance since the championship run in 2017. I'm very much looking forward to continued success from the Indians' baseball program. Best of luck to Kingwood Park the rest of the way. Scalp 'em.

Future in Chicago?

On the subject of RJ, I was at lunch with a retired state senator and his daughter, both now lobbyists, a few weeks ago. Football came up and the daughter brought up that one of her friends had held a birthday party for her young son and his friends in Westlake while Roschon was still in school at UT. The birthday boy's dream was to have UT football players show up. A few texts were sent around and sure enough, two UT football players showed up to the kid's birthday party. One of them was Roschon. Made the kid's day and all of his friends' days, too. They still reflect on that fondly.

That says a lot about Roschon's character that he would be willing to do that--but then again, we already knew he's that kind of guy. All I could do was beam a little and tell her that's exactly the kind of guy everybody back home knows Roschon to be.

Thoughts and Prayers

Wanted to thank everyone for the support my mom made sure to let me know of all of y'all's well wishes,I have officially graduated BMT and am now an American Airman!

Recruiting

This is insane. You now have people wanting everything to change just so they can ‘get ahead’. Disgusting.

Its already happening, how in the world is it legal for that QB to go to Aledo?!?! Only thing a portal will change is now they dont have to use Loopholes.

Recruiting

Right - It’s ridiculous to have them play normal teams and the rest of us have to pretend they’re winning legit homegrown championships. If you want an all-star team you have to win an all-star championship. Certain teams aren’t even willing to step on the field unless they start out holding all the cards.
Dave Campbell and UIL might be pretending, but I am not.

Surprised BH is not considering a second Highschool. Houston northeast 6A is brutal. 5AD2 appears to be a sweet spot to remain in.

PNG coaching and Student dedication overcomes.

5A-D2 Regional Finals: PN-G vs Kingwood Park

NDN Press has been approved by the UIL to broadcast this series on the NFHS network. Hopefully the NFHS equipment works. At least our announcers will probably notice if it is not working and try to get it fixed.
