Site homepage

The web site has multiple layers of cyber defense. Necessary because of severe, malicious attacks in the past that caused extensive damage and kept me up for days battling it realtime while trying to keep the website up.

For this scenario to be triggered a significant number of page requests would typically have to be made within a very short time period. A number not humanly possible with normal use.

If this occurs, intentionally or because of some network glitch on your end that caused rapid retries, The result would be a block of the IP address.

It’s also possible that your provider has assigned a dynamic IP address to you that happened to be in the same block as a malicious actor. If multiple attacks come from the same network or subnet that you are in, an entire range of IP address range could be blocked.

I will check server logs tomorrow to better understand.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Rules relaxed to allow more page requests. Let me know if you still see any messages.

To all that have developed and manage web sites and sofware systems, I'm preaching to the choir when I say this. It's not a trivial effort to build and keep a web site running. Not just the effort to build and maintain it, but also dealing with the constant malicious actors out there. And it never has been easy over the 25 years it's been running. The messageboard is a much easier effort. But pngindians.com is a different beast.

So I appreciate the understanding when things are not perfect. Just let me know and I'll take care of it asap.

Thank you for responding as well and you do an amazing job keeping the website and this forum going.

Yes, I have received that error message. Usually at work. I figured it was our firm's computer system blocking me.

My laptop pngindians.com gives me the HTTP:503 ERROR. Howerver, there is no problem concering pngingians.com on my Android phone. I am deffinitely not IT literate, so I have no idea how this can happen.

Lots of variables. But I had it throttled down to what I thought was a reasonable number of likely page requests within a given period. For whatever reason, it was apparently too limiting in some cases. To help you understand why, there are people and groups that crawl the site to steal content, and also make DoS (denial of service) attacks that either slow things to a crawl or even make it unaccessible. And then of course malicious actors that are trying to find every weakness to access the file structure or databases. The worst case I’ve had to deal with was an apparent breach of the actual host server which allowed malware to be injected. That’s the one that kept me up 2 days straight. I also had the site offline to protect everyone. Anyway, TMI but good to be aware of. It takes a lot to properly run a web site.

Thank you IndianFan for fixing it
