2026 Baseball

The seeding situation is more complicated than I thought because I forgot that there will no longer be a single 5a baseball champion (glad we won it before this change). Instead, like in 6a football, they will split each district in two at the end of each season, with the two largest schools going to the D1 bracket and the two smallest going to the D2 bracket (regardless of where their records fall among the four teams). Fortunately, in the case of our district the teams with the best records (PNG and Nederland) will both go to the same bracket (D2) and, by chance, we will in fact end up playing the 4th place team (Santa Fe) from district 20-5A in the first round of the playoffs. Date and time TBD.

Excerpt from the article.

“Section 442 requires athletes to be a “resident of the attendance zone in which the participant school being attended is situated.”

End of excerpt.

Unfortunate for a great Grapevine team, program and community. But rules are rules and there is good reason for them.

In comparison, this illustrates and emphasizes how the Dallas ISD and their very different attendance policies provides advantages to schools within that district by allowing district wide (1M+ population) participation. The Grapevine situation would have been business as usual in Dallas. “Rules for thee, but not for me.” Manufactured success.

Grapevine head coach Jimmy Webster went on to say, “We refuse to compromise our commitment to the rules and the values of honesty and sportsmanship.”

Thank you Coach Webster for setting an example and standard for the DFW area. Now let’s see what other area schools are committed to. And if the UIL and State of Texas will ever hold all schools to ethical conduct in sports

pay wall

Also, someone ‘turned them in’.

“The district was notified Tuesday evening by the UIL regarding an allegation of an ineligible player on the GHS baseball team.”

That’s why if you’re living with your girlfriend and her mom in the Grapevine district (to play baseball)
You don’t break up with her until AFTER the season is over
(Not saying that’s what happened)

So we had Grapevine in d2
Moves Colleyville Heritage down to div 2 since Denton Ryan gets in and is larger (to D1 with Birdland)(who names these towns)
(I believe) I’ve had to delete one post due to not being correct lol.

What a mess. Also shows the drawbacks of determining D1 vs D2 after the regular season, as something like this affects many teams instead of just 2 (GV and their 1st round playoff opponent). With playoffs set to start today (or sometime this week) suddenly several different teams will be facing different teams than they expected with little time to prepare for them.

But
I’d say Grapevine’s opponent as well as the remainder of D2 is happy about it haha
Aledo had to also change to preparing for Ryan who missed the playoffs if nothing changed (instead of CH) (good team)
So at least it reduced competition of everyone affected (I think)

Dern
Would have been a perfect game for me to go to but have a gig in nearby Dickinson. Dern
High chance for rescheduling due to weather IMO. But don’t know when or where a rescheduled game would be held since game 3 (if necessary) is scheduled for Saturday in Port Neches. Stay tuned?
