2025 Baseball

Indians lose 4-3 heartbreaker to Nederland in bottom of the 7th, so they are tied with the dogs for second place in the district. I hear they are going to play a seeding game tomorrow to decide the top seed in the d2 playoffs (as they will both be playing in d2). If so, lets get ‘em in the rubber match!

Well I later heard they flipped for the top seed and Nederland won the toss, so if so no game tomorrow and on to the playoffs it is!

Solid first season under Coach Tim Erickson. They battled injuries all year long — including losing ASU commit Eli Curtis — the team pulled off big wins over Barbers Hill and Nederland. With a lot of talent returning, it’s going to be exciting to see what’s next for this group. They finished 21-10 on the year.

My folks live across the street from the baseball and softball fields. That MCM game that PN-G won 6-5, my dad told me they sold out the stadium and had people backing up to the fenceline around the diamond to watch while standing on top of the tailgates of their trucks. In 27 years of seeing the baseball field out their front door, my parents have never seen that before.

The community is definitely paying attention. Methinks the future is just as bright for the baseball and softball teams as it is for the football team.

Have your parents been keeping the front door closed. That happens just about every MCM baseball game ever since I can remember. I graduated in the 80's and my son graduated in 2019, Unless one team just totally sucked the stadium was always full with trucks backed up against the fence in all those years. Also, if PNG wins at home the players jump in the canal and Nederland does the same if they win at home. Before the softball field was built they would back up to that fence also. Left field was know as beer bottle alley because after that game there would be bottle caps all by the score board.

Great story. And it sure does seem like the future is bright and the present something to be proud of.

It wouldn't matter. The front door has a 2' x 4' glass pane down the middle of it.

I’m sure there are levels to the outstanding attendance at PNG games. Sounds like there were probably more packed in and lined up this time than in prior years.

Back in the 70s, 80s and maybe into the 90s or even until the softball field was built, the old softball bleachers used to be on the baseline of the baseball field. Long before the baseball/softball practice facility was built. Baseball seating capacity was greater back then. Maybe 2500. And the entire outfield fence was open to be lined up against. Now those were big crowds.
