Huntsville Hornets long time HC Rodney Southern suddenly retired in March 2025. Coach Southern later this year accepted the HC/AD position at 6A Copperas Cove HS. Coach Southern started his initial coaching career decades ago at Copperas Cove.
Huntsville ISD did not promote from within the current OC/DC staff. New Huntsville HC is Todd Moebes the previous HC at 5AD2 Lockhart HS the past six years. Coach Moebes record at Lockhart was 22-41. His team’s were 2-8 (24), 4-7 (23), 8-4 (22), 2-8 (21), 0-9 (20), and 6-5 (19).
Lockhart HS six years ago was in a district with Liberty Hill. During the previous UIL state realignment Lockhart was moved into a district with perennial powers College Station and AM Consolidated.
Coach Moebes enjoyed early initial HC success at then 4A Abilene Cooper HS from 2011-2017 (52-35 record) with five regional semifinal appearances.
Coach Moebes was Abilene Cooper’s DC before being promoted to the HC position.
Coach Moebes overall HC record is 74-76. Now you know HC Moebes background for our district challenger in 2025. Huntsville HS is Picked by MaxPrep and Dave Campbell to win district and is ranked above PNG in both preseason state rankings.

Just me looking at the new hc at Huntsville. Not to impressive on paper?

Yep
To me that was the best reaction of any character in the whole movie
Almost all (except the Pamela Anderson scene) the people were taken off guard thinking this is a real guy
Coach Joseph was super kind and accommodating.

Paper tiger or a ferocious beast. Time will tell.
We will know quickly. #8 ranked Huntsville plays #3 ranked Brenham on Friday August 29 at Brenham. Brenham beat Huntsville (39-35) last year. Brenham lost to Richmond Randle in the playoffs (14-28). Brenham returns 9 offense starters and 8 defensive starters on an 11-2 team.

I expect Brenham will live up to that ranking. Even when we beat them in 2023 they were really good, and they have the same running back returning. They could have beaten us that year, if we had been willing to get into a shootout with them. (After they scored on us we responded with a six-minute drive to close out the half that really took the wind out of their sails). The point is, Brenham’s been building to this year for the last three years. I won’t be surprised if they make it out of the region.

Richmond Randle (state champion) and Iowa Colony regional finalist (lost to Randle) are in Brenham’s region 3. Outside looking in is also Fort Bend Marshall. Steel sharpens Steel.
