Live rep intersquad scrimmage on Saturday. Lots of key pieces still out for baseball and such so first week in pads was a tough read. But here are some highlights of what I did notice. Still trying to get a handle on all the new faces but here is what I got. At least one of the new 2027's that came over from basketball really seems like he could possibly earn starting job. The one playing safety, I only got a first name (Baylen), is VERY athletic, to the point I wouldn't be surprised if he took safety and they moved McLeod down to OLB. No reason to think this would happen but it seems plausible as our linebackers are a ? right now. The other Bball player of note (Johnathan) is taking reps at tight end tall lean frame (guessing 6'4 or 6'5", maybe ~200lbs) will need a LOT more reps to learn the blocking schemes and technique, but has some serious speed and GOOD hands. I hear Chris Diaz is coming back, but have yet to see him. Elijah Washington is getting some RB reps and that young man has got some wheels. He ran a 23.32 - 200m in T&F this year. Which is only .49 seconds of off Blair's PR that I could find. Although I imagine Henry will be our work horse I could see Washington being used situationally as we further develop our playbook. Cash Barnwell looks damn good at nose guard, he is very active, he is playing with a chip on his shoulder and it is impressive. I know it is early but I am going to go ahead and say I think we will continue to have one of the best O-Line's in the state. I'm guess it will end up LT to RT (Wolford, Lofton, Metts, Reeves, Black) OR (Wolford, Matney *the big freshman*, Lofton, Reeves, Black) this would open Metts back up to H/TE, where he may be needed. Also recently heard a rumor that there is a player who has moved back, unfortunately thats all the info I have. Sounds like he is a 2027 and was pretty good in his younger days and family has recently moved back to Groves. Still very early and have yet to even see the complete team; between competing sports, and a few not dressed out for injury or illness, but I am excited. Right now it feels more like a reload not a rebuild year. I think we will continue to be very competitive.
