2026 Indians

The night we earned the label "rabid" and left the Liberty Hill radio broadcasters complaining how tired they were of watching "that dancin' Indian in the middle of the field."

My favorite memory of that game came from my niece, then a first grader at Taft. As we were walking out of the stadium after the last round of War Chant, she looked up at me and said, "We're going to Dallas!" Apparently it was all the kids at school had been talking about that week.

I also fondly remember pulling into the parking lot an hour before the game, fresh off the road from Leander, to find the line to the PN-G gate wrapped all the way around the stadium. I got on the Google Earth map to measure the line and found that it was--literally--a mile long. And it wasn't the only line; it had gotten so long the Katy staff had started a second line that wrapped around the parking lot going the other way.

You're just not going to find that anywhere else.

After hearing teams claim how their passing game was drastically improved by 7-7 participation, it really feels like it would be a great move. Gholke, Jackson and Benkert are talented receivers. Freshman QB West has been described as having a ‘gun slinger’ arm. And Ashworth has already proven to be a promising QB option. Any chance to keep the passing game at or above the 2025 level, combined with Tyson Henry’s return would maximize the potency of the 2026 offense. An offense designed to keep the best opposing defenses guessing what is coming next. Wouldn’t that be great. And the way to advance further and win it all.
Hope Coaches can find a spot on the field for West either as a receiver or perhaps a safety. He was impressive as the tall, quick, strong arm shortstop on the baseball team. Sitting on the sidelines as a backup QB would be a waste of talent.

My guess is, he will start the season as the JV starting QB. He’d make the jump to varsity mid season or so.
