#3 Port Neches-Groves 27, #9 Port Arthur Memorial 35

I’m honestly shocked we came away with just a one TD loss in this game - these kids have some fight in them. Could have laid down and quit when Memorial was up 3 scores, but they clawed back to make it a game. Memorial is good - may be the best team we play in the regular season. Sloppy mistakes made, but to be expected for a first game. Silver lining is coach has a lot of good film on us to work on.

Too much negativity. The Indians didn’t play their best game, with several self inflicted wounds, and kept it within a touchdown against a good 5A-D1 team. More work to be done, but it will be done. Coaches saw what they needed to see, and the players will use this game to improve.

Congratulations to Port Arthur Memorial on the win. Unfortunately a petty decision by the Memorial band to play a kindergarten version of Cherokee taints what could have been a classy win. Also clear that Memorial’s QB would still be #3 or #4 on the PNG depth chart.
That’s why I say
Our band plays to our crowd from now on.

Several of these schools have very little class when it comes to traditional courtesies and they couldn’t care less
So from now on play towards us

The ones saying PNG will lose in 1st round of playoffs or having a down year are clueless. This team has the makeup and coaching staff to make it to the state championship. The last 4 years are the standard and this team will achieve great things this season.

Yes too bad we don’t remember the negative Nellies at the end of the season

PA is better than we thought
But without turnovers and even more he one false start (we had very few penalties overall) on 4th and one
We win that game by 2 TDs
It’s like this almost every year.

It’s the seasons we dominate every opponent that we lose first round to Brenham or second round to Manvel

Wrong. Joseph will never show his hand in a season opener. This was bland by design.
I wish we had been bland, but we weren’t. We were overly complicated and that makes us predictable. Memorial coached that game humble - just trying to get three yards a carry. It was like their coaches thought we were better than them. Our offense was called like we think we have Dieon Sanders in the lineup. That scares me. Our superpower under Joseph is running between the tackles. If you stuff us once, we just try it again, and that drives opposing defenses crazy. Last night, we were basically guaranteed to throw a deep pass on second and third down. If we had just stuck to our bland bread and butter we would have worn them down all night (we were wearing them down anyway by the end, despite hardly making them work). I wanted bland. I’m begging for bland.

Jeff Joseph coached teams have not lost to Brenham or Manvel or anybody in the first or second round of the playoffs and it won't happen this year either.

In judging the PAM game you have to take into account the lack of experience of many of our players, as well as the quality of the opponent. PAM will most likely make another deep run in 5A D1 this year. Additionally, Joseph and company were clearly experimenting with various things during this game. To me, the only really disappointing thing about the game (other than losing of course) was the mistakes. But that can, and will be, cleaned up.

Crawford will be taken down a notch I believe
I can tell by their demeanor they won’t handle the pressure they cry after every ass they drop that it’s PI

I just watched the replay of the game on YouTube. I would like to take this opportunity to be the bigger man and apologize for what I posted about our young offensive line. Those guys geld together in that 4th Qtr as a group. Tyson practically walked into the end zone on his 2 TDs as they began to wear down a stout PAM defensive line. If you just watch the 4th Qtr., you will see exactly what I am talking about. Most teams would have given up going into the 4th Qtr down by 3 scores. Our guys stepped up to the challenge. That pass to Waguespack that set up 1st and Goal at the 1 yard line was fire! I know that our coaching staff will study the game film and make the necessary corrections this coming week. WB will see a totally different version of the 2026 PNG Indians next Friday! Scalp 'em!

IMO apologies aren’t needed haha
I know what you mean
But we’re a good team and could have easily won that game last night
PAM is TALL
they made ace look small
Usually when you have a star like their LB usually you can obviously tell who he is
But this front 7 sort of all looked similar in physique and skill
They might win state.
