5A-D2 Regional Finals: PN-G vs Kingwood Park

They said ‘Grove’. Time for The Groves to teach them a lesson or two. ;)

They swept Nederland in the regional finals last year, then lost to Grapevine in the semifinals. Given this set up (making it back to regional finals), they would appear to be a dangerous team. However, I believe we will be up to the challenge. As has been the case so far in the playoffs. our pitching will probable be the key. If our pitchers are on top of their games during this series we have a good chance of advancing. Go Indians!!!

Hard to believe
Even the link takes you to the
Port Neches GROVES page.

Series venue and game times set:

Game 1 Friday 5/22 7pm

Game 2 Sat 5/23 2pm

Game 3 (if necc) Sat 30 min after Game 2

All games at Crosby HS

Venue is good for us for multiple reasons. However, there is a high likelihood of weather disruptions (in entire Houston area) that could affect the games in unknown ways.

Go Indians!!!

Their drive time wise will be similar to PNG lol
(Well, more similar than expected but they’ll drive close to an hour)

Playing with numbers.

UIL enrollments 2024-2026
2026 District 18 Standings/enrollment/Division
Kingwood Park/1919/5AD2
Crosby/2090/5AD1
Dayton/1659/5AD2
New Caney Porter/2144/5AD1

2026-2028 enrollment
Crosby 2217 6A division
Kingwood Park 1866
New Caney Porter 1851
Dayton 1674

Humble ISD has an open district enrollment policy that allows student transfers upon request among its district high schools Atascocita, Humble, Kingwood, and Humble Kingwood Park. One year sit out for UIL participation.

2026 District 19/standings/enrollment/division
PNG/1701/5AD2
Nederland/1485/5AD2
Baytown Sterling/2139/5AD1
Barbers Hill/2092/5AD1

2026-2028 UIL enrollments (current numbers)
Barbers Hill 2309 6A
Baytown Sterling 2202
PNG 1655
Nederland 1553
Surprised BH is not considering a second Highschool. Houston northeast 6A is brutal. 5AD2 appears to be a sweet spot to remain in.

BH vs PNG
2309-1655=654 ~327 boys ~33 more athletes

PNG coaching and Student dedication overcomes.

I watch the trend for weather rather than the actual daily forecast

And the trend doesn’t look good for all weekend

Wow amazing data collection there

Chat GPT
which I’ve caught straight up lying so I don’t say this is accurate at all

For the current (2026) Kingwood Park Panthers, the main stars appear to be:

  • Landon Coburn (Sr., P/IF) — probably the biggest name. He set a Kingwood Park single-season record with 11 wins, posted a 2.16 ERA, and is a National Park College commit. He’s also leading the team in batting average and hits this season.
  • Nate Eveler (Sr., C/P) — one of their top hitters and leaders behind the plate. Last season he hit .351 with 43 RBIs and remains one of their offensive anchors.
  • Griffin Resendez (Sr., DH/INF/OF) — key bat in the lineup, first-team all-district type player, around .300+ hitter, and among team RBI leaders.
  • Logan Bear (OF/P) — returning standout who was named district Newcomer of the Year, considered one of their impact players.
  • Garrett Koshkin (P) — one of their better arms on the mound and part of the strong pitching depth

In the case where chatbots are augmenting their response by doing a document or web search, they are more inclined to not have current, realtime information than to hallucinate. But anything is possible. Treat it all with a healthy level of doubt.

Mine just makes stuff up all the time

Of course I’m trying to see if it’s genuine so I set traps for it
Mainly because I don’t trust it and want to see what it’s all about

I watch the trend for weather rather than the actual daily forecast

And the trend doesn’t look good for all weekend
Hard to see how they will manage to get 2 or 3 games in on Friday and Saturday with the current weather forecast. At a minimum, there are likely to be multiple weather delays. For anyone planning to attend drive carefully, as fairly widespread street flooding is predicted. Hopefully the forecast will be a bust, but it has actually been getting a bit more dire for the entire Houston area the last few days.

Might be interesting to see what it has to say about PNG.

For the current 2026 team, the biggest “stars” or key impact players for Port Neches-Groves High School baseball appear to be:

  • Eli Curtis — probably the headliner right now. He’s a Division I prospect and recently threw a no-hitter in the playoffs, and local coverage singled him out as a major contributor for PNG’s regional run.
  • Luke Williams — one of the better-known returning arms on the roster and a key pitcher for PNG. He shows up as a notable varsity RHP tied to the 2026 class.
  • PNG has also been described locally as having strong pitching and multiple returning all-district players, which is one reason they’ve been considered a serious playoff team this season.
