I remember both the Star Trek and the umbrellas. Two of my favorites but I couldn't get any closer to the year than the last poster. She is right about either late 70's or early 80's.
Hey, I’m in this video Played Trumpet….that was finals of State Marching Contest at DKR Stadium…we placed 5th in the State! That’s back when bands were judged primarily on marching technique and musicianship! Now, there’s WAY too much emphasis on the “SHOW” and Choreography! PNG has struggled to make it back to State because they’re competing with bands who are basically putting on a ELABORATE mini Broadway Production…ugh!Yes. That’s still my favorite PNG logo of all time.
I forgot how awesome the marching was and how loud the bands played back then.
I will never forget watching Pearland Dawson roll out a Baby Grand piano and a solo booth, both mounted on carts, for the area competition in 2009.Hey, I’m in this video Played Trumpet….that was finals of State Marching Contest at DKR Stadium…we placed 5th in the State! My recollection is that this band took first in prelims, but I might mistaken. This was first year my sister taught at the HS and served as the Asst. Indianette Director.Hey, I’m in this video Played Trumpet….that was finals of State Marching Contest at DKR Stadium…we placed 5th in the State! That’s correct, we were 1st in Pre-lims and placed 5th overall, which was IMPRESSIVE considering this was our first year in 4A (now 5A). That kick started a long run of State Marching Contest appearances for the Purple Pride! My recollection is that this band took first in prelims, but I might mistaken. Me too!! I don’t really mind the current style, but all the “extra” stuff is a bit over the top!! I mean, baby grand pianos, electric guitars, ELABORATE props, and BAND KIDS doing DANCE choreography is just SILLY to me!! PNG still ranks among the TOP when it comes to MUSICIANSHIP and MARCHING but get passed over for State because the judges wanna be “entertained”…ugh!I prefer the old style of marching as well as music selection. Some Houston area schools seem to be on a different level with creativity. Even New Caney WF. Bridgeland High School probably has some of the greatest performances I’ve seen from a high school band.
