Indians were inches away from winning the championship in 2000. Ahead in the final inning, had the opponent (Boerne) on the ropes with 2 outs and just one out needed. Ball flew over the outstretched arm of short stop Dustin Long for the winning hit and RBI. Inches out of reach and avoiding the final out for the win.

Almost went to that game but decided against it at the last minute due to work. Heartbreaking the way it played out, especially after losing in the football state final as well. However, it was a great time for Indian sports!!

It was a very tough loss. I took my young son to that game. On the way back from Austin, after sunset and headed back to Houston on 290, I hit a giant raccoon dead center. (Never swerve to miss an animal) It stood straight up in the middle of my lane and headlights were the last thing he saw. Put a very large u-shaped dent in the center of the radiator. Caved it in. No loss of coolant and made it home but it was an expensive repair. And an even worse outcome for the raccoon.

The Indians were a championship team. As good as any in 5A. Boerne just did a little more on that day, in that game, in that inning to take the win. Kudos to Boerne on that win.

2026 is another story. With another championship caliber PN-G team still at it.

The opponent in 2000 was Calallen. Boerne was the opponent during the 2004 semifinal loss (I did attend that game, another crushing loss). We had a great team that year (in 2004) as well, with a 17 game winning streak at one point.

We have the dubious distinction of being the real starting point of the Calallen BB dynasty, as 2000 was their first ever state championship after numerous years where they had good teams that could never get over that hump.

It should be PG vs Calallen again this year in 4A (which would be #3 nationally vs #24 nationally (MaxPreps) and PG was in the top 10 nationally until they dropped a game to Bullard late in the season non district)

Would be amazing to join them in a doubleheader.
