Hey Indians, just heard that Coach Terry Cobb passed away last night. Condolences to his family and all us former players. Great coach and even better man.

Sad to hear. He coached defensive ends during the glory years of the 70s. Condolences to his family.

Coaches Doug Ethridge, Butch Troy, Wayne Hooper, Don Bryson, Roy Esquivel and Terry Cobb now gone.

Coaches Bruce Bush and Greg Davis are still with us.

And unless someone has updated information, coaches Wayne Winn and Ken Clearman are as well. They would be around 90 and 84 respectively.

Rest in peace men. You will not be forgotten.

Coach Hooper taught me biology. I had Coach Cobb for World History and study hall. He coached DEs on the football team, and he was the HC for boys track and field. I never heard Coach Cobb say a curse/swear word. He'd raise his voice to get your attention, but he never used inappropriate language. He was a man's man, a man of high character. RIP, Coach Cobb. Peace be with you.

I love that man. I had the great opportunity to coach with him for over 20 years at PNG. Coach Cobb helped me learn how to be a good coach and a good man. Coach Cobb led a group of men in the Vietnam War, taught History, coached defensive ends, was the Head track coach and ran the summer recreation program for many years. Coach was able to influence a lot of young people. He once told me that yelling at the kids was easy but coaching technique was the challenge that would help any student playing sports. I was able to see him often this last football season because my granddaughter is an Indianette. I am happy that the last game I saw him at I gave him a big bear hug.

Thanks for sharing that. The technique that Coach Cobb taught his players was how undersized players were able to excel. He was definitely a more calm and collected football coach.

This is sad to hear. He coached my uncles and me and all my brothers. I had him for world history too. His stories about the Vietnam war will stick with me forever.

Port Neches-Groves has a legacy of great coaches over the years. Men of great ability and high caliber. Men who had passion for their job and the players they coached. The head coaches are more memorable as they led the charge. McCollum, Ford, Watson, Ethridge. Burnett, etc. Many were also great players at PN-G, Matt Burnett probably being the epitome of what a PNG Indian was all about. They walked the talk. All great men who will forever represent what PNG has been about since the beginning.

The assistants are not as well known, but they also played a huge part in building the program and the young men they coached. Coach Cobb was one of those greats. There are many others.

Each generation of players will instantly recall the beloved position coaches who taught them the game.

It would be a great project for the website to list all assistant coaches over the years. If someone wants to assist or take that task, I will make sure those coaches names are prominently listed on the pngindians.com web site for everyone to remember them.
