Do we need a Booster Club at PNG ? My understanding is that Matt Burnett wouldn't allow a Booster Club. Who thinks a Booster Club would be good for the District ?

I believe it would be a great asset for our program.Alot of people are negative about it because they think the business owners run the coach, but IMO I think that the money part of it gives our kids more opportunity to have nicer things. For example, getting our baseball/softball fields upgraded because the bond money isn't enough.

I dont see any reason not to have a booster club. It would probably present more oppurtunities and definitely present another source of funding for our student body. Isnt that what a school district is about?

Or we start it now so he has to support it once he gets here. Im fairly sure he couldnt just come in and tell us he didnt like it right after he came into office if it was previously established.

Im not completely sure how to go about starting it, but, Mrs. Pat Briggs, the director of extra-curricular activities at the high school, probably would. Her contact information is on the high school webpage.

no we do not need a booster club, we pay enough taxes to pay for teh schools needs, just need ppl on the board that know how to manage money and spend it wisely and correctly!

i for one will not give money to a booster club! it would be nothing but a bickering club , cause the ppl in it will be the few that are here that thinnk the good ole boy attitude is the way to go!

Yes he could. He will be the athletic director.

google athletic booster clubs/houston chronicle.read what goes on around the state.google all the big time programs and add booster club.lake travis, stephenville, katy.etc all have some form of an athletic booster club.some are way over-the-top while most just help the kids.i challenge anyone(especially ndn parent)to go to our middle schools and look at the equipment.its embarrasing.

I dont think he'd want to. A coach comes in and does away with a club in his first few weeks. That'd look bad. And besides, I dont see why he wouldnt want one. Its an extra source of funding.

And yes, the middle school equipment is embarassing. Hopefully, a new school means new equipment, too, but I doubt it.

Bottom line is it won't happen before the new AD is here. So if will have to be be approved by him regardless.

A couple of years ago the HS admin was all for an overall athletics booster club that would benefit all sports. Only Matt Burnett was against having one. That's his prerogative but now it's a new era and I believe it will happen. Booster clubs are a huge deal across the state and the new coach will likely be used to having one. if not, that's his choice as well. I will support the new coach 100% regardless.

Good post! I will also support whoever is hired 100%. Husband's family been here since the 20's and there were lots of times a booster club was suggested and then rejected. Why?? Go across the tracks to Nederland and you can learn why. Booster clubs, especially football, have prominent members who begin to tell the coach how to coach the team, what they liked and did not like, and, in general, politics run rampant. This eventually hurts the entire program. Personally, I say hire the best coach, pay the best salary and let the coach do his job. If he doesn't, replace him ASAP. PN definitely doesn't need any more political BS.
