FINAL: Indians 27, Bulldogs 24

AMAZING night by the team, support groups, students and fans!! But WHY can’t we resolve the sound issue for the students singing the national anthem?? We all deserve better!
It’s the choir director not understanding how condenser mics work
I could solve the problem easily

First concept

aim the MIC AWAY (as in opposite direction from) the PA speaker which is in the scoreboard
Second
Pick your BEST and strongest singer from each part (soprano alto tenor etc) and have them stand within ONE FOOT (closer if possible) to the mic - if you want to do that with two mics and have it cover more that’s great (but I suggest one)
You don’t have to tell the singers who’s not being amplified usually they don’t know or care
(I skipped this part) it HAS to be a condenser mic not an ordinary everyday dynamic mic and condensers need phantom 48v power or an internal battery

That sacrifices all the singers being heard equally but it’s a necessary sacrifice
If you want to rotate that like team captains so be it - I’ve sung the national anthem twice at the astrodome that’s just now it works (and my mom sang the national anthem EVERY single Little League opening ceremony (claim to fame lol)
Also have singers “block” the PA speaker from “line of sight”
So surrounding the mic is a circle of strong singers then the rest form concentric circles around them
I’m a sound man from WAY back and both my parents were both school band and choral directors as well as large church choir directors
Feel free to tell the choir director this info and most people just don’t understand the physics of it so there’s no blame there

What happens is - in order to turn it up loud enough it starts that pulsating whistle feedback just like is heard when Refs try to explain holding lol
So they CANT turn it up enough
(Summary) you have to be closer to the mic

It’s a ratio between the distance from mic to singer (sound source) and the speaker)
Feedback is when the mic starts picking up the speaker as loudly as the micd sound source.
So if the mic is 1 foot from your mouth and the speaker is 2 feet from the mic you basically almost can’t amplify at all
Well in order for the scoreboard speaker to reach the stands it has to be pretty dang loud and that also is going into the mic on the field
The other actually preferable option is to have 2 handheld mics which each first chair singer per part shares with one other (bass with Alto) (soprano with tenor) and don’t forget the breath mint - this would deliver the BEST sound available - the other option is to perform it INSIDE the press box.

Also
The farther you can be away from the scoreboard the better (underneath the flag for instance for production value)

Time to start a new PNG tradition to honor this great country. Want all the spirt groups to sing the National Anthem. Fans should chime in. Don’t understand how powerful that act is.
It was actually great to hear it
Ned students started it we all finished it (about 10 seconds before the choir lol)

Wasn't familiar with that song so looked it up. The music is cool if that's what you like. But not the lyrics. Adult Nederland fans sing those lyrics? I would expect the Nederland admin, band director and fans to have higher standards. Oh well... 4-0. On to the next district game.
That just shows how little class Nederland has in its administration and band directors as well as their students. I have friends that live in Nederland saying how awful that was. I personally think that song should be banned from any school (high school or college) related event. But for the band director and administration that were there to allow it shows there is no class in these positions of authority. And for the student section to boo PNG's band as it entered the field, it just shows how rude and undisciplined those kids are. I know it's the biggest rivalry in Texas and it gets crazy but the way their students and band acted just shows how very little class they have in their admin.

No intention of over generalizing or labeling all because of a few, but there seems to be more resentment and dislike coming from that side of the world.

I wish the band would always play the national anthem. Or have a trumpet do a solo. I don’t think the way the choir is doing it sounds good, at all. How do they manage to make it sound so boring? The anthem should be bold and confident.
Understand the preference, but having the choir sing it gives another student group a chance to be part of the Friday night experience, which I think is good. When the audio tech is working well, I think they sound great.

I was impressed with NED student body singing the national anthem. PNG should always lead not follow.
Well, SOMEBODY had to sing it! Our Admin can't seem to figure out how to wire a microphone down to the filed. There's a problem at almost every home game. Pathetic. The District needs to do better. It's an embarrassment at every game.

I do appreciate the fact that this group of students get to be a part of the Friday night experience, and it definitely is not a reflection on them that this issue is ongoing. It’s more of a fluke when we can hear them, but on the rare chance that we can, they do sound great. The fact that this issue hasn’t been resolved is unacceptable. The national anthem needs to be presented loudly and proudly! So whoever in the administration can effect a positive resolution to this issue, PLEASE do so. It’s embarrassing and definitely beneath PNG’s standard of excellence!

If they’re going to do it, I wish they would at least sing it with a little more bravado. It’s our national song, not an arthouse film.

I've always like how Dayton and a few other schools have the colors on the field with a Marine flag as well and an honor guard. And let the band play the NA.

Video Board needs some upgrades as well. Faded lettering and lots of feedback. Looks very aged

I have to disagree with everyone bagging on our defense last night. Nederland’s RB tandem is VERY GOOD. And we held them to just 142yds. Yes, tackling could have been better but Hansing #42 had 2.5 sacks on the night, Faul #32 had 1, Flores #19 had 1, and Satcher #20 had 1 with a phantom facemask call, we also had a number of TFL, and when we needed stops the defense got em.
I said it from the start of this season, this Bulldog team would be much improved over last year and they proved it last night. Credit where due.
But to say our D was playing terrible or this that and the other thing is just inaccurate. The defense actually played really well considering multiple D1 offer athletes on Neds offense. Were we perfect? By no means. But our D did most of what any DC could ask of them.
