FINAL: Indians 27, Bulldogs 24

All really depends on the strength of the d-line of whatever team we play I think.
Our o line has regressed the last two years. In 2022-2024 we had elite o-line coaches. Size isn’t our problem. O-line wasn’t as sophisticated in 2025 as in 2024, and 2026 is worse than 2025. 2027 won’t be better.

I think the o-line will be improved by mid 2027. :)

Important to remember these are high school age kids. Different levels of intellectual and emotional maturity, strength, understanding and God given ability. The coaches work with what they have. Imagine if you were a corporate manager with a demanding customer base. And all your employees were 14-17 years old that you must train from the ground up AND motivate. Now that’s a tough gig. No offense, but there is little that’s sophisticated about that age group. Results will vary. :)

I appreciate that Coach Easley has been with the team and coaching the offensive line through all those years. He has provided stability while multiple coaches have passed through that position over recent years.

To be clear, I’m not blaming the kids at all. I’m not even really blaming the coaches. I’m just observing that the teaching was more sophisticated from 2022-2024. We lost a great o-line coach, then had an elite one in 2024. We can’t just shrug and say, “well, they aren’t as good this year” or “we don’t have the same talent.” The difference the last o-line coach made was immediate: we had a better o-line in 2024 than the one that won state. And the regression started the second he left.

For reference, Coach Welch was the O-line coach in 1999 when we went to state. I think Dustin was sacked a total of 4 times in 16 games that year. Different times, I know, but still impressive.

Dan Welch has seen it all. There's not anything happening on the OL that he hasn't seen in 35+ years of coaching. He's coached all types of OL schemes from the Odessa Permian/Plano toss sweep and three step passing game, to the spread, to the wing-T, pro style offenses, and everything in between. Coach Easley is learning from solid mentors...Charlie Feller, AJ Roland, and now Dan Welch. The OL has gotten better each week. Proud of those kids for putting in the work. The Indians have had lots of different OL combos this year due to injuries and illness. Young kids getting better with reps/experience. I hear we've got some potential size at the freshman level and in the middle schools. Let's see what Mother Nature develops.

Your observations are always logical and reasonable. I was just adding that the level of sophistication that any teacher can use or teach might vary by student group. Even in football.

I strongly suggest you rewatch the Dayton game and focus on how the dual blocking HB/TEs were utilized to offset the OL boy’s first step, leg and foot speed.. There are innovative OL coaching ways to compensate and enhance talent. Tyson Henry 171 yards rushing. Become a student of the game through game podcast study. The victory is in the details.

Everything aside... Nederland is watching SOC tape. They're attempting a poor mans version of their offense. The dance the qb and rb do. The hesitation before the execution. That unbothered concern.

I may be saying it wrong, but that's what what they want. This is just a note in case we meet them again
