FINAL: PN-G 17, Midlothian Heritage 14

The wind is gusting in the video, the flags are swirling and the ball is floating for both teams. Enough wind was there in the first half to have an impact. And it appeared that the Indians were trying to mix it up. It wasn’t working very well. Ashworth is starting his second game, under a heavy rush and struggled to get the ball to receivers. Ashworth was also contained on his runs. How else do you mix it up?

Proud of this team and these coaches. Good opponent tonight and here on out. None of them are going to cooperate with the PN-G game plans which are going to be limited with the loss of Bailey. Sometimes the win might be ugly but PN-G is the master of dog fights. Indians are tough and will rise to the occasion.
Texas High was creative in their offensive play calling last week

Look I’m glad we won!!!!! But….Yes … because if I have a high school team with no dog in this fight sitting here watching the game with me and they know exactly what we’re going to do - you think the recruitment camp of SOC will latch on to that?!?! I don’t know the man, but he needs to push the envelope period.
Do we know how many passes Jackson caught yesterday?

Sort of reminds me of Pleasant Grove’s first SC vs WOS I overheard WOS fans in the walkways before the game “all we have to do is stop the run” first play TD pass to the TE
This PNG team pounds it until we need creativity like on the 2 pt conversion. If we had dropped back Ashworth twice as many times last night we would have ended up with a pick 6 or a sack scoop and score I betcha.
Now we face manufactured Goliath and they’ve seen very little of our ace in the hole plays
We didn’t need not one against Ennis seemed like everything we did broke for 70+

SOC ain't Ennis....

Those plays would be awesome. Just easier said than done and there is the factor of maintaining enough drives to score and keep the ball away from the opposition.

Ashworth is not Bailey. He is probably not as comfortable or familiar with the offense and doesn’t yet see the field like he eventually will. That’s something the coaches have to plan around. The other thing is PNG does not have players that are going to outrun a good team around the ends. Maybe if there is some misdirection going on. But a team like SOC, with college recruits, that will be tough. Going straight at them may be more effective than anything else if the plays are executed well. Then get the ball to Gholke or Jackson. That’s what they’ve done all season. More difficult to do that against really good teams.

SOC will stack the box. Blitz. Play single coverage. We will have to mix in RB screens. Quick passes. One issue I had last night was the slow developing pass plays against a team blitzing so much. Our WRs can win one on one's in the quick passing game. Run some zone reads. Not direct QB runs. SOC will be very aggressive. Have to scheme that to our advantage while staying within our offensive identity.

Yes. Maybe 2-3 seconds in the pocket and either throw it or pull it down and run. What may be missing a little is the timing that Bailey had with his receivers and the zip that he can put on the ball. When those routes were working this year it was like a hot knife cutting through butter. That’s something that developed over 40+ games. But coaches will see Ashworth’s strengths and weaknesses best and plan around that. Maybe more of that will be on display next week. One thing that will need to stop is just throwing the ball up and away when the rush has closed in. Throw it out of bounds in the general direction.

Why haven't we heard about the time and place for the next game? Or have we?

NDN Press posted that a decision probably won’t be made until Monday. I don’t think playing at SFA will be an option again this year because they have a home playoff game Saturday.

There’s another team that runs the ball a lot, smash mouth style to control tempo, clock and field position. They’ve done it for years and been successful doing it. Guess what team. (Starts with a ‘K’). And guess who might be heavily influenced by that approach. I’d bet money that Coach Joseph has plenty of say so on the game planning and that it’s not a single coach making every play call decision.

So we are undefeated this year in a tough district and deep into the playoffs. So what's all this complaining about our play calling now. We have to work with what we've got and what our opponents can do. Relax, the team has already executed above and beyond. One more win over SOC will be great. Chief Joseph and team know what they are doing.
