1000 percent.Bittersweet win. Very tough to see your 3 year QB go down on a senseless hit. Nacogdoches played like that all night with a lot of senseless hits and fouls. A team that would not even make the playoffs in 8-5A. Sorry, no good words for Nacogdoches from this fan.
But it’s encouraging to know that this PNG team is deep and talented. Coach Joseph has been building the team up all season. Every player that saw the field last night made everyone proud. Backup defenders shut down Nacogdoches until that last drive when all the newest players on varsity were out there. And even then they made it difficult for them to score.
If Bailey’s injury is bad enough, the entire team will need to step it up a notch and rally. Dig deep. #18 is a terrific runner and from all accounts a talented passer. He will just need more reps and hopefully can produce quickly. Similar to how Bailey had to step into the role in 2023. But maybe Conner Bailey will make it back. If not, next man up and the entire team needs to flex for what’s upcoming.
Was impressed with the PNG “JV” goal line run defense inside of the 5 yd line in final minutes of the 4th Q.? Had to pass couldn’t run.Bittersweet win. Can’t put the same pressure on an inexperienced Sophomore QB to complete 3rd and long passes to keep game drives going with the opponent defense blitzing on third downs.1000 percent.
But everybody and their sister knows what the game plan is going to be against PNG for the rest of the playoffs. Last year SOC put 8 to 9 guys in the box with single coverage and beat the brakes off of us.
This year will be no different and every team will do the same until we start beating them thru the air once we go thru the marginal teams in the playoffs. I'm sure the coaches studied that game for months and have a game plan and have been practicing those plays the whole year. 2 yards and a cloud of dust will not beat SOC. Time to suck it up and play with some intensity now that Bailey is injured

Ennis game will be a tell all about how a QB is being developed and tailoring the game plan to his unique skill strengths. Will need an heroic support effort from the rest of the team to keep his confidence up.
And he might be able to do more than we think. And from the crowd.
Bingo. That’s been on my mind all day.Bailey stepped up and took over as a sophomore when Adams went down, and now it’s Ashworth’s turn to step up and lead this team.
I don’t think there are any marginal teams left. Ennis will be tough. I would still not have any major concerns about them if we were at full strength, but that does not seem likely. I have a feeling we will need a really stellar defensive performance to feel very comfortable during this game. And we may well need an effective passing attack. Not to say that we will not have those two things, but I have a feeling we will need them.1000 percent.

We know Henry can put on the cape. We may need it.I don’t think there are any marginal teams left. Ennis will be tough. Good analysis. We all know the game plan we will be facing in upcoming games, and so do the coaches. And with each succeeding game it will become harder and harder to run the football. So whatever can be done to at least maintain an effective passing threat with whoever we have on the field, that is what we need to do. I have great faith in our coaching staff, but this is definitely one of the biggest challenges they have faced during their time here. With Bailey, he at least had almost an entire regular season to improve prior to the playoffs. And his level of talent and experience cannot be replaced. Therefore, what is needed are effective adjustments to our offensive game plans, as well as a defense that really steps up going forward. It remains to be seen if anyone else can have the long ball touch and 60% accuracy that Bailey has. And no one can replace his 3 years of experience and understanding or confidence at the position.
With Ashworth, maybe high percentage passes to playmakers who have proven to get a lot of YAC can be the focus. Gholke and Jackson are fast. Brisboe on quick routes is very capable. Screens to Henry or Diaz. And anything else that the coaches can cook up to loosen the defense. The opponents defensive game plan since at least Montgomery is stack the box, blitz and flood the gaps, especially that off tackle play that Henry runs a lot, and pressure the QB.
A lot of this is going to depend on the o-line reaching another level to give Ashworth more time. Even 1 second makes a difference. Give him time to see the field and not rush a pass, or take off scrambling too soon.
