Dogs game was a heck of a game. Nederland scored to take a 7 point lead with a minute left, then Montgomery scored with 4 seconds left. Montgomery won the toss in OT and the dogs started at the 40 instead of the 25, apparently due to a penalty. Montgomery held them on 4th down, then scored on their possession.
I'm not surprised. I know Montgomery is a quality team. I was thinking they would win by a field goal but a touchdown in overtime is better. Especially if foul weather and game delay. Wow, Montgomery must be feeling great while Nederland just gave us a golden gift. Thanks Pickle from DCTF for the intriguing analysis.
I definitely want to watch that game.

Their team speed is awesome. Let’s see if they can run away from Marshall (5-1 and 8-2). if they can keep their legs after that long bus trip to Marshall, Texas.
They have to play under discipline to win.

8-5A 1st plays 7-5A 4th place team
8-5A 2nd plays 7-5A 3rd place team
8-5A 3rd plays 7-5A 2nd place team
8-5A 4th plays 7-5A 1st place team

We probably play Mount Pleasant or Whitehouse in round 1.
PNG plays Hallsville purple and white Bobcats (3-3 and 4-6) at home
Huntsville plays Whitehouse (3-3 and 5-5) at home.
Montgomery plays Marshall (5-1 and 8-2) in Marshall.
Nederland plays Texarkana (6-0 and 10-0) in Texarkana.
If PNG wins bidistrict likely play Kaufman who has a QB, RB, WR offense like MLC but a much better defense.

If Huntsville wins bi district then DCTF Stepp gets his Huntsville vs SOC game in the area round. Stepp Predicted in the preseason a Huntsville vs Richmond Randle state championship game.

If Nederland can beat Texarkana (10-0) in bi district and Crandall ( 9-1) in the area round they will be a tornado force to be reckoned with.
It would be nice the problem is our defense has been god awful for much of the year and I think Texas High will score alot i just hope our offense can keep up and make it a game next week..aleast our future looks bright on this side of the tracks our Freshman team was undefeated and our JV team only lost 2 games

I completely agree with this post. We haven’t imposed our will on anyone all year. Very inconsistent- luck has benefited us several times. I too love my Indians, but this is fact.
If you go back and look at the scores last year, there were many close calls and fortunate outcomes. As far as this year, they have had moments of dominance in every game. Accompanied with moments of weakness in areas as well. Will they ever reach perfection? Probably not but the state championship team last year was not perfect either. Things can come either but it they don’t go 15-1, I hope fans don’t go to the extreme and consider the season a waste. Expectations seems to have become a little warped.

All you can ask for is to be competitive…..we aren’t going to keep going to state year in year out …. that’s just unrealistic. I like what I saw in the passing game last night and imo has been missed…as you move on, teams will stack the box if there is no passing threat. Shore up the tackling and special teams and I think we still have a shot at a long playoff run. Make no mistake, Huntsville was a quality opponent and we beat them at their house, so this team does have what it takes.

Yes. Still have the core and most of the coaches. This ‘24 team is starting some freshman, sophomores and juniors that were not part of last season. And some new coaches as well. It is what it is. They are all working to get better.

And they are 9-1 and district champion. The Nederland loss was a lapse, not a loss to a better team and that’s what makes it tough to deal with.

If the Indians can keep that quick passing game dialed in, and still average 5+ on the ground with some long runs mixed in, and FINISH DRIVES, this offense will be potent. On defense, tighten up those edges and tackle better in the backfield and this team will be very competitive.

Yep, 30-3 final.
Thanks. I had too much multi-tasking going on last night, and too many on line issues. I reminded myself of my childhood years when my dad would have 2 or 3 TVs set up to watch various bowl games during the holiday. Lots of good games last night.
Anyway ... Congrats to our Indians, District Champs.

Sophomore offensive guard Ace Reeves stepped in for 2-year starter Parker Ferris and played an outstanding 4 quarters last night. At 6-3 250+ and growing, he's going to be a good one.

Outstanding sophomore running back Tyson Henry had a few long runs as he seems to be returning to his prior form before the ankle injury.

Freshman wide receiver Jude Gholke also had a couple of key receptions.

Who is #80? He's new to the roster but looks like a promising receiver with a great catch across the middle.

Defensive backups were in with 4 minutes left in the first half and held the Broncos to 3 points the remainder of the game.

Lots of other good performances last night. The passing game looked better with some play action passes to the tight end, half back and running back that we have not seen much of. Opponents are going to have to game plan for that and not focus on run defense.

I actually liked the coverage from the backup secondary better than for our starters. Dead serious. And put the jv secondary in too.
