FINAL: PN-G Indians 63, Ennis Lions 29

PNG beat Crosby 72 - 69 in the first round of the playoffs in 2018. I'm sure that doesn't matter here because you are focusing on exact point totals for a Jeff Joseph team.

It was in 2017, but yes, and that 72 point win is tied for the second highest points total ever scored by PN-G in a game with the Indians’ 72-20 win over Galena Park in 2021. In the stands last night, there was a brief moment where we were debating whether the Ennis game would surpass that record.

Has PNG ever went undefeated and won the state title before?

No. Our only undefeated season record came in 1946, which culminated in a regional final win. The small school classifications in those days did not play for state championships.

When we won the titles in 1975 and 2023, we had one loss on our record. We had two losses on our record in the 1955 season and four in 1953.

Hmm, I don't recall any 75 loss.

It was the 17-16 predistrict loss to South Houston, which was avenged in the playoffs, 32-7.

I recall that PNG had to forfeit that game because Barber Hill scouts in the Crosby press box saw part of a laptop computer in a PNG nap sack lying on the press box floor and turned PNG into the UIL. UIL punishment was a forfeit.

I’m present at the game and a few things stand out.

We have easily eight times as many fans here as Ennis, and more than twice as many kids dressed out.

Bailey is on the sidelines with his leg in a brace, but he does not have crutches and he’s walking pretty naturally.

MH will be a challenge
Closer to Huntsville challenge level tall tall OL good skill players
We are better than them though
We just need to clean up some things
As far as our new QB for the next 2.5 years
Some first Q jitters but overall near perfect result - great long ball we just need work on reads and short GULF COAST OFFENSE snappy passes we should win
And will be a closer game for us than if THS had won (at least for me anyway)
Just like our key to Ennis proved DTM
DOWN THE MIDDLE it will be harder vs MH but that’s where our bread and butter is.

The 72-69 game was a first round playoff game. The forfeit was later during the time Crosby joined our district.
