Ya notice all the 7-3, 7-2, 8-2 AHEAD of PNG on the Dave Campbell list? A bit of favoritism maybe?

I think the highest they got back in 1999 was #10. I remember they played in Division II back then, also. That division was the hardest in the State. Division I was the weaker one back then and I think that it still is. I remember Nederland advancing pretty far that year and we beat them 31-8.

Does anyone out there remember the PNG vs. Waller game in the Astrodome in 1999? Does anyone remember what time that game actually started? That game did not start until after midnight. That was a real trip. That would have been wild to be a player out there and be playing in the middle of the night. That was a really fun year!!!

I remmeber that game. It was a double header after the Nederland game I think. I believe we lost most of the Nederland fans that might have stayed because it started so late.

I wish I could have made that game. I was, however, at the Stephenville game. That was an incredible crowd. Good times.

I forgot what we were rated then, but in 1975 the week before we played Odessa Permian for the state champtionship, PNG was ranked #3. We all had many good laughs about that. When only 2 teams are left, how can anyone be rated #3? ;D

I only missed the LaMarque game that year but I was in Houston just in the hospital. I did send my husband and all the nurses new we were from Port Neches. That was a fun year, our friends from Vidor and EC went to all the games with us.

As usual, we made all the games. The Schertz-Clemens game was so exciting most of the fans sitting around us, including us, were crying at the end! I still think that if the play calling would have been more balanced (more running and not all relying on Dustin's passes) we could've beaten Stephenville. That's what I love about this years team--they're a threat with both running and passing and have a great defense at the same time. I would not be surprised if we win state or close to it this year. Just think what's in store next year! Awesome!

No question!!! If we would have ran the ball, we would have beaten them. My cousin, Jeff Bergeron, talked to Kendall Briles (the QB of Stephenville) on the internet after that game and Kendall told him that he could not believe that PNG did not run the ball. He said that they were more concerned about the running of Bo Wortham and Jeff Bergeron than anything. I think they were forcing the pass and trying to "beef up" Dustin Long's stats some more to impress the college scouts. Don't get me wrong, I love DL and his family. That's just a fact and pretty obvious if you watched that game. We could have ran the ball on them all day...

We were ranked #11 in the final regular season AP poll in 1999. After we lost the state championship game, we were ranked #2 even ahead of Div. I champs Texas City.
