Brutal conditions for the freshman practices at 3PM although it'll be plenty hot by the end of varsity practice at 2:30. Only the toughest of the tough make it through August football practices.

Would be great if local business and donors could get that indoor facility built. Slim chance in today's economic and political chaos.

Very True .... with PNG's history and tradition, it's pretty sad that there isn't an indoor facility....schools with much less pedigree have them.

Have you seen Melissa new stadium? WOW!!
I have ..my wife's cousin lives in Melissa....lot's of relatively new stadiums in the area (after Allen being the 1st) ... Prosper, McKinney, Denton Braswell etc. Speaking of new statium's, I wonder if Celina will get one soon. I can't see how they don't go 5A d2 in the next alignment (the city is over 40k now ..it was 17k in 2020).

The money was infact donated for an indoor facility a few years back. When it cam time to make plans to build the refineries pipelines prevented the building at the proposed location. I do not know what happened to the money and the build after that,

The Hutto freshman boys have to be dressed out and on the field by 4:30 (it's been 106/107 here for almost 30 days with no rain) and they don't cut them loose until 7:30. I should know, I have to go drop and pick. My son is a wreck.
Interesting story though, and kinda cool (wish I'd had someone like that) - my son is fascinated/fan boy for chance prosperie. They text each other and chance gives him advice. I appreciate that from the bottom of my heart. His talking to chance makes him work harder, study his moves, etc. So the Hutto connection to PN-G is strong/alive and well.
I tried for a couple of years to get a job back in PN, but no luck. Zak wanted to play for PN-G. I told him the ultimate Dad test for me would be having to attend a Hutto/PN-G game when my son is on the field.
That's divorce material in my house. ;)

oh and...... anyone else miss the PNG arrowhead/feather logo? I can't stand the block print PNG logo they have now. But wins are ok :)

Wow, that's just awful...surely they could find another place (like next to the far side to the right of the gym. Something else has to be going on ..one proposed location should not have killed that. I smell something rotten unfortunately.

A lot of the incoming freshman are quitting Football and going to the Basketball period. The class is loaded with basketball players.

Really? Were they also quite good at football or just okay at football, but excelled at basketball? Since I moved to Texas (PNG) in 86,, we have really never had a team that made a deep run in the playoff's at basketball ...we have had some descent teams though.

But
You want em suffering now
More suffering now = less later
Plus it FORCES you to hydrate and get rest and get in that habit
(We all know that here I’m just typing it lol)

Not uncommon for a lot of freshman to quit. Every middle school player probably wants to play high school ball. I may trigger someone with this statement, but the reality is week 1, even day 1, separates the chaff from the wheat. Smaller, weaker kids are often overwhelmed by the level of size, speed and aggressiveness when Port Neches and Groves MS players combine. If you didn't see the field much at either middle school, or don't shown up in decent condition, you are likely to have a tough time competing. A lot of kids drop out because of the level of competition.

No doubt - first week of two-a-days always weeded out the players who didn’t really want to be there. Not just Freshman either.

I'm having these same conversations here in Hutto with my son. I tell him, there's always somebody bigger and badder than you. So you just hit them harder and they will remember you. The goal right now is to have "win" your pairing. Just get better and keep showing up. The rest will fall inline.
He went up against a Jr HS db at a camp at TXST and made the guy look stupid. ;) So there's hope. I keep reminding him of that.

That's great. Heart, effort, dedication and execution can win over size and/or ‘athleticism’. Tougher if the big guy has all that as well. Look at Mason Droddy, and the many other PNG players over time that were on the smaller side. They overcame it all and excelled on the field. The mentality of PNG players over the years was execute your job correctly, hit them in the mouth every play, and wear them down. The bigger they were, the harder we swung the ax. It's actually a worthy challenge to put the hurt on a bigger opponent, every play, over and over until they crack. Problem with super talented opponents is they can give it back and avoid your best shot with quickness. Just have to adjust your angles and keep trying.

Assuming that players today understand and practice the same overarching attitude.

Nothing wrong with that. It’s not for everybody. My son stopped playing in 10th grade, after playing organized tackle football for 7 years, because of asthma and just not being into it. 6-1 250 and pretty good but new high schools in the Houston area don’t carry the history and tradition of one school towns like Port Neches-Groves. It has to mean something to put in that work. Hind sight, with CTE risks and such, that decision was fine with me.
