Game Day: #3 Port Neches-Groves vs #9 Port Arthur Memorial

Mistakes happen in game 1. Our kids will get better. Need to tighten up the run blocking and tackling in open space. PAM has stuffed and shut down the PN-G run game. The effort is there. We have the best coaches in the State of Texas. The Indians will get better.

We obviously have some work to do. First game jitters clearly got to us. And, as per usual, Memorial has plenty of talent.

That aside, I feel obligated to point this out. When we last played at Memorial three years ago, their announcer wouldn’t call us the Indians. Just “the opponents.”

Tonight, Memorial’s band is playing the “poor little Injun boys” chant that riffs on the closing chorus of Cherokee like TJ and Lincoln used to do in the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. I haven’t heard that since I was a kid and didn’t think anyone actually knew it any more (or at least, that anyone would admit to knowing it).

It’s official. Woke War I is over. We can declare victory.

As the son of two former band directors

It’s time to lose the tradition of playing to the home side

I have several backup statements to this

One the other side doesn’t deserve to have a closer look at it than the parents who sacrificed to get their band / twirler / Indianette to where they are now

I have more to say

Just do it
It’s a tradition that has served its purpose now let’s lose it.

They get the ball first so i hope we can get a stop and stay in it. I know it’s basically a time for tinkering to see what we got. but i would still like to see a good showing.

Get a stop. Lean on the run game. Three yards and a cloud of dust. Shorten the game and see how things end up. Easier said than done. Just want our kids to compete, get better, and go home injury free (with a W). GO INDIANS!

Trench is where we it is being lost right now. Some good snaps but most are looking rough. The blocks are mostly ok but not working together seems to be an issue. With a new set of lines this is what on expected and what I expect will improve. The Linebackers are having to cover for them and it’s leaving little room to make it to the edges against their speed.

Not as bad as I expected though, a solid start.
