On the replay, his foot was clearly out of bounds when he caught the ball…ugh! Didn’t look like they crossed the goal line on that TD either but oh well…we’re MOVING ON to the Semifinal REMATCH!!

Cypress and Katy are both about the same distance from the true midpoint, with both being about 40 miles closer to Port Neches than to Liberty Hill. We will probably want to play at Katy Legacy, but LH may not want to do that given the way things turned out for them at that venue last year. We shall see.

Katy makes the most sense. Right off of I-10, it’s the fastest drive for either team and is near enough to midpoint.

What a game! Tip of the cap to Huntsville. Region 3 may run through Huntsville in 2024. They played a lot of juniors and sophomores. I think they will return 9 kids on defense next year. The Hornets were physical. The most physical team PN-G has faced since TXC, FBM, and PAM. There is no doubt that the Huntsville Hornets practice hitting. The Indians will have some soreness tomorrow. All that said, PN-G wasn't shy about giving out some licks, too. So proud of our kids. They just kept playing. Good play, bad play, the refs screwing them, it didn't matter. Those Indians just kept coming.

1. Connor Bailey made some beautiful throws. He's already a very good QB. The game is not too fast for him. He's calm under pressure, has poise, and when he needs to throw a laser, he can do it. He's also developed nice touch. That throw to #11 on the out and up go route was beautiful. Bailey could not have handed the ball to #11 any better than he threw that 40-yard bomb. Barring injury, he's going to be a great three-year QB for PN-G.

2. The OL is there when you need them. A reliable group of strong kids. Huntsville was bringing the house and they were physical. The Indian OL did not back down.

3. PN-G's defense is bad ass. But for the refs keeping Huntsville drives alive with BS penalties, the Indian defense was doing its thing. I can't say it enough...that game was physical by both teams. Those Indians will bend, but they don't break and they will hit you!

4. The tush-push, fake power toss QB keeper by Shea Adams was AWESOME! The perfect call at the perfect time.

5. The PN-G coaching staff is top notch. Well prepared, focused, and they always have the Indians ready to play.

6. Did anyone else think that the Huntsville fake field goal holder was past the line of scrimmage when he made the throw that somehow got a first down when the receiver was out of bounds IN FRONT of the first down marker. First, I think the throw was past the line of scrimmage. Thus, an illegal pass. Second, how did the side judge mark the ball at or past the first down marker when the WR caught the ball and fell out of bonds IN FRONT of the line to gain. The refs screwed PN-G on that fake field goal. Also, those refs need appointments at the eye doctor...they can't see HOLDING. #94, #47, and #49 got held all night long. Poor #94 got tackled from behind on the screen pass where the Hornets converted 3rd and forever. #94 was there to make the tackle and the OL tackled him!!!!

7. Anyone else excited to go play Liberty Hill again in the semi-finals? I am. Go Indian

Yes to all your points and don't forget z e r o turnovers. I listened to Huntsville's pre game show and their coach said it was critical to win that aspect of the game and not get behind early in the game.

Lots of that went on. Lots of holding. The refs flagged some of it, but they were mostly watching for the motion penalties, it seemed, and I think both teams set a record for most illegal motion penalties.

I agree with all of the above critiques, and I'll add that special teams did a great job, much better than last week against LC.

I ended up handling the Ticketmaster maneuvers but we didn't appreciate standing out in the rain for 45 minutes waiting for the gate to open. I think NRG opened the gates at ~5:50, so 10 minutes early. Very nice of them. Nice venue, even if a bottle of water cost ~$6, and ~$22 to park. The live scoreboards are very nice, for when people in front of you are standing up, and you can't for some reason. BTW, standing is pretty much standard procedure at most football games, especially close playoff games. To call someone an *sshole for standing is, well, just being an *sshole.

Anyway, good game, good win, and congrats to the Hornets, they're a good team, better than LC I think, and they'll be back.

I’m conflicted over how to feel about the penalties last night. On the one hand, that’s some of the worst officiating I’ve seen this season at any level - high school, college or professional - and I watched last week’s Iron Bowl. The refs gave Huntsville a touchdown on that drive with the three consecutive penalties. I thought two of those three were completely out of line. I don’t normally blame the refs. The last two games, though, they have been a factor.

On the other hand, I’m not happy with our false starts in key moments. Like I said last week, at this stage of the playoffs, mental errors are deadly.

Last night was the first time this season I really got concerned about conservative play-calling. That one drive where we kept digging a hole on the Huntsville side of the 50 and finally had to punt the ball away in their territory, I felt like play-calling was a factor. Nguyen running the reverse on third and long didn’t make sense to me. Having said that, I recognize that we were up by two or three possessions most of the night and trying to run the clock. In addition, I get the feeling the coaches are trying to make sure we still have plays in the playbook that nobody’s yet seen on film when we get to the championship. I respect that strategy.

We have a great defense and the coaches clearly have confidence in them. Joseph has no qualms hanging it all out on the D. The crowd also has confidence in that D, and isn’t afraid to show it. They say defense wins championships. It definitely won the regional championship for the Indians this year. That is a welcome change from prior seasons at PN-G.

Winning the turnover battle was critical, as was getting off to a quick start. I am a bet worried about our tendency to get a big lead then go to sleep in the second half (perhaps after one good scoring drive). However, my hope is that the reason we have not scored much in the latter part of recent games is that the coaches are being very conservative. It certainly looks that way. Hopefully if we did not have the big leads they would call the game differently and we would not appear to be in a deep slumber offensively. Consistent with that idea, we have done a pretty good job of sustaining drives at the end of games when attempting to run out the clock, even if these drives did not result in any points.
