WO-S has a huge offensive line but PN-G’s defensive front 7 was better. Defense minus a few missed tackles was outstanding.

Everyone likes to talk about the Mustang playmakers. At the end of the day PN-G’s playmakers outdid them with demonstrated speed and power. Nguyen, 205 yards rushing, and Adams with some huge plays. Chatagnier with some tough running and key gains. The Indian’s offensive line ground the Mustangs down. All in all a good preseason effort leading into the bye week and district play.

WOS is a shell of what it was. Last year was its worst season in 39 years. I've watched WOS play at least 35 games over the last 30 years and I've never seen the arm tackling and generally poor tackling exhibited tonight. Hiawatha has failed to implement the previous standards established by Thompson and it shows.

My dad’s cousin’s son is the offensive coordinator at West Orange. (I write that with the most SETX accent you can possibly read into it.) I don’t disagree that West Orange has had missteps the last few seasons. Hickman wants to do some things differently. I think the offense is coming together there. The defense is still hit or miss, and they need to improve their fundamentals. I think you will see a much better Mustang unit on the field this year than last year.

The amount of times the play clock expired when WOS had the ball and the refs ignored it is unacceptable. One of the easiest penalties to call and they missed it AT LEAST 4 times. One of those times resulted in a score for the Mustangs.

It does look like Adams is more of a threat at WR/RB. Surprising, but the sophomore QB does have the arm if he can just settle down.

He did show some good composure last nigh, in a big setting.

Any speculation as to why we attempted so few passes? I could understand it if we tried to pass but it was ineffective, but very few pass plays were called with either Shea or Bailey. Are their DBs supposed to be super good and/or their pass rush? Or conversely, was their run defense thought to be suspect? We obviously did have success running the ball (particularly Nguyen-what a game!!), but we also cannot count on it always coming around like it did in the second half. Any thoughts?

Can’t argue with the result, and it was obviously the best strategy once it became clear that their defense was gassed.

Against FBM, TXC, and Dayton, the defenses will not be gassed. We can't be one dimensional. We have to throw the football downfield. We did that last year vs. FBM in the playoff game. Crippen found Prosperie, Guarnere, and Adams to keep the offense balanced. Things will come together this season. We have some big WRs. The Indians are still evolving, learning, and finding the pieces of the puzzle. Good times at PN-G! Go Indians.

Kudos again to a tough PNG defense that throttled a very capable and explosive WO-S offense that returned 7 starters from last season.

Also, if you read the Beaumont Enterprise article, it mentioned that WO-S gained 525 yards. That's inaccurate. The Mustangs had a few long gains but at the end of the night they totaled 370 yards on 10 drives. And zero yards on that last OT possession.

Thanks for doing the math. My gut told me that the 525 yards was a bogus number. But it's really difficult to get game stats these days - without watching the game a 2nd time and doing it yourself.

That’s what it took. When I read that article I was wondering what game he watched. If the formula was before penalty yardage, you can’t factor that in. If not for the infraction they very well might not have gained any negated yardage.
