Huntsville @ PN-G

Sounds like Huntsville might unleash their QB this week and let him run. Their RB Brown has rushed for 645 yards and 8 TDs so far this year. 8.5 ypc and 161ypg. So another challenge for a swarming PNG defense to keep these guys contained.

This years defensive line is doing a great job of getting a push on the opposing line while Winfrey, Brashers and company are making great reads and getting to the ball with speed. The dbs are also making some key tackles when needed. It'll take the entire unit playing in sync to stop another good rushing attack.
The QB run is definitely something we need to be prepared for based on the interview. We have had trouble with that at times in the past, but hopefully those days are over!

Even through 99? C’mon man!
I was a hippie playing music out on the road lol
So I’m personally not including that team in this era
(26 years ago hard to believe)
To put it in perspective more time has passed from 99 to now than from 75 to 99 wow

I remember seeing the paper and seeing that PNG was going deep into the playoffs and being proud of that but I was in the Wild West

Any rushing stats for PNG this season? Anyone?
The Indians haven’t rushed for a ton of yards this year. Piecing together what we can, about 170 yards per game and about a 5-6 yard average with Henry and Diaz seeing the bulk of carries for 5 TDs each and about 6.5 ypc.

The improved defense and special teams play have shortened the field for a lot of drives, and the Indians haven’t needed to go the distance every drive. For example, the 10 or so possessions and 7 scores against LC totaled about 464 yards of offense. Less than 50 yards per drive.

The overall offense is so far very balanced this year as the Indians effectively use short to medium passes to gain key yards instead of pounding the rock every play. Gaining around 180 yards per game through the air in addition to 170 on the ground, this offense mixes it up. I’ll take a controlling offense that can average 350 and score consistently over offensive fireworks. And that’s with the starters getting a lot of rest. 4 quarters of offense would surely add another 100 yards per game on average.

That balanced attack with the improving ability to hit the big plays will keep opposing defenses on their heels this year. Those long passes to Jackson will loosen things up and minimize stacking the box. And when they begin completing more, and you know they eventually will, the scoreboard will light up more. But let’s not forget the value of just moving the chains consistently, running clock and just scoring. It leaves less time for the bad guys to do much.

I think we also pulled the main RB's early vs LC .... not sure about the other games, but could see that as a possibility against United as well?

almost every player on the sidelines looks like they could be the plugged in somewhere at some position
That’s extremely rare in most high school teams even very good ones
There obviously is a level of responsibility even the non standouts feel toward “team”
Imagine if we had Benoit

That’s my observation as well! I believe this is the first 100% all “Joseph era” team and IT SHOWS!! With the amount of players rotating in and out, I keep saying we’ve got one of the BUSIEST sidelines I’ve ever seen, especially in HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!

#34 LB Casen Burnham is slowly coming back from an injury. Had two sacks in limited playing time. I can see him among others being key rotational players as you said. PNG coaching staff all appear committed to developing player depth and player confidence which builds team spirit.

I sat next to his parents this last game.
He is working hard and highly motivated.
Has an older brother.

To clarify, Greg Tepper said he thinks the OFFENSE this year is better than the offense in 2023. He didn’t say we’re better overall. But I agree more and more with the idea that we’re better at this point in the season than we’ve been at this point with any other Joseph team (or any team of the last 25+ years). Here’s hoping we end up the best in png history.

You know who else rotates in a lot? SOC. To me it's a learning of how am I going to beat this unreal accumulation of talent? I have homegrow kids in a closed school district. So I need to compete. I need to give them the chance.

The coaching this PNG team has is unreal. Understanding the future. Acknowledging and accepting the deliverables needed. Having this team come out on fire this early... its all indicative of a coach that understands long term and what it takes to compete and beat, perceived unfair forces. An opinion on the fairness of the situation really doesn't matter at the end of the day. How do you beat it? That's the line. They're there. How do we respond?

After week one I thought we looked in mid-season form. Now going into week 5 we look like week 10 form. This team is executing at a very high level. They look prepared and motivated. The coaching at PN-G is top level. Period.

It's truly something else. I have a teenager and one that is 1 year away from being a teenager lol... I work daily on trying to motivate them to work in a cohesive manner.

Just goes to show you what it takes to get a high performance program together.

And I would like to clarify a tad... I realize it's just not about beating SOC. Yes, they will be the gatekeeper out of Region. But to set sights on them is premature. They are a tough opponent. Probably tougher than the Region 1 winner. But the game plan should end at State. One game at a time I tell myself

The sign of a great coaching staff is they have the ability to teach, motivate, prepare and make their team believe in their capabilities and potential. And in that process, the players develop a deep belief not only in themselves but also in the coaches.

The team learns that they are a force to be reckoned with IF they work hard, practice hard, study the game, execute and trust their coaches. That's the same magic that happened in the 1970s. Ethridge and company made those undersized players believe. And as the wins kept coming, team confidence grew and the PN-G reputation grew with it.

Fast forward to 2023 and this group of players has seen and lived the possibility of reaching the top and winning it all. The mountain top is familiar and within site. Yes, it is possible in Port Neches-Groves. And they know that the greatest fan and student support in the state of Texas will follow them all the way. Indian Nation is strong.
