Jeff Bergeron

No doubt about it. PN-G football is a Texas treasure and stories such as that are a great read for any TX football fan.

And Jeff Bergeron is a PN-G treasure. The best talent at running back that has ever stepped on a PNG field. His speed both on the field and track is legendary.

That article offered an excellent perspective that might have gone less noticed. Bergeron’s commitment to the community and school district only makes his legend greater. If any player ever deserved a statue, it might be him. Along with other players like Matt Burnett, he is symbolic of everything that PN-G is about. And ‘The Jet’ will always be the shining star of an incredible era of Indian football.

The intent and purpose of pngindians.com was to highlight the past so that it might never fade or be forgotten. The commitment remains to grow the historical archives so that fans and media will have a source to revisit great players and moments, and to write more articles about one of Texas’ great football programs.

Let’s all work together to discover more historical content that can be shared on this platform for the state and world to discover. If you can find it, I can publish it for eternity.

I really think PNG needs to look into having some sort of “hall of fame” kinda like Dayton we’ve had to many great athletes,Teachers,Announcers and coaches for them not to be permanently recognized around the stadium or school.

An official Hall of Fame and a dedicated area to store and display the various memorabilia and historical items that document PN-G football history would be a unique and valued creation. Perhaps an extension of the public library if the school district can’t maintain it. Raise some funds to construct a building and purchase displays. Charge a small fee to visit that could cover the utility costs , etc. The potential is amazing. It would be a tremendous success. A place where current and past residents and alumni could revisit and recharge with Indian Spirit.

Here’s a great list to begin with.

McCollum, Ford, Ethridge, Burnett and Faircloth all having coaching creds that are deserving of recognition. And of course you may as well put Jeff Joseph there because he is well on his way to exceeding them all.

The problem with any honor system is everyone has special interests. There should be a high bar of accomplishments or significance to be considered. For coaches: championships, wins, games coached. For players: all-American, all-state, highly performing players on high profile teams, college and/or professional success, etc. Outliers, not average. That was the logic behind the unofficial, virtual ‘Hall of Honor’ mentioned above.

Imo, with even above average defenses we would have won state at least once and possibly more than once under Faircloth during the RJ years.
RJ is not only what I believe to be the best player in PNG history but he’s also a amazing person who still supports PNG today. From hosting events to just a simple “scalp em” post on socials,he could have easily graduated and just walked away like MANY pros do.To add more even after ALL the controversy PNG has been through recently he’s NEVER backed off from supporting us very openly!Ive got 4 names that NEED something around our school ASAP RJ,Bum Phillips,Wade Phillips,Jeff the Jet
