Montgomery Game Band Talk

The date and time of the area marching competition is outside the band and the district's span of control. That's all up to the UIL.

Not being argumentative... just have to say it though. The football players show up at the field house every Saturday at 8:30 AM, even after games like Lake Creek when they get in bed after 1 AM. It sucks to see that level of commitment from the boys, and something like this happen. No one's fault, I'm sure there are many other factors, third party organizations and governing bodies all at play. Just had to complain a little. Now I feel better.
My daughter is in the band and they have to be back at the high school at 4am, so they can do a run thru around 530am. Before getting on the buses to head to channelview. It really sucks without the band just thought I would throw a little knowledge on the situation. We plan on staying for the full game and have to get up early to get her to the school and make the trip to channelview a little later. Bandtober is no joke

I was in band all 4 years. We went to State in '97 at Baylor. Grand Champion at SHSU in '96. Those were good years. We never, ever did a 5:30am run thru. We also never had the option to not be in the performing, competition band. Unless you played football.
It's changed a lot since I was there.

yup, they technically have 3 bands now. You have the Friday night band and the competition band and honors band I believe. It’s my daughter’s first year of band so still learning all the ins and outs of band. Also indianettes only have to do 1 year of the competition band for the flag corp which if I remember correctly back in your day they all had to be in it. That why the band looks smaller for competition than Friday night band

Many thanks to the band, Indianettes, twirlers, band directors, helpers, band parents, et al. Thanks for making the long road trips, getting up early, going home late, and supporting the Indians on the football field. Good luck at the band competition. Now, that PN-G Alumni Band idea, I love it. Someone who has connections to the ISD, band directors, admin, and Facebook, let's maket his happen going forward. If not this year, next year. I know a 57 year old and 62 year old that would volunteer...both told me they still remember how to play Cherokee. One was a flute player and the other played the clarinet. After they said they could do it, they did say, HOLD THE PRESSES. We can do Cherokee and probably the school song if we practice, but don't volunteer us for anything else.

In 3 years I'll get to revisit it because my daughter will hopefully be in Indianettes. So I imagine I'll be biting my tongue about the good ol days and how we used to to it. Learnings for all.

Valid point and they probably wouldn’t leave early if the competition were close to home but it’s in Channelview so they have to be back at the school around 4-5am Saturday morning. Just like the football team is putting in the work with hopes of making it to STATE, the band kids have also been putting in a TREMENDOUS amount of work with hopes of making it to STATE Marching Contest and unfortunately, sometimes leaving a game early is necessary so they’ll be prepared to do their BEST. Trust me…I was in band back in the day and this never was an issue but things are WAY different now and A LOT more is required of them because the competition is FIERCE!

Sorry, last comment about the band leaving early! This will be a GREAT opportunity for the fans to RISE UP and be louder than EVER because if there’s one SIMPLE thing we CAN do without the band…it’s WAR CHANT!! Chiefs fans do it all the time…lol! Just need some folks to get it started EVERY TIME Montgomery has the ball and everyone else will join in.

That would be incredible.

Even so, probably not nearly as small as the miniscule following other teams have at Port Neches games. (Not counting NHS)

Still don’t get why the non-state performing band members couldn’t stay at the game.
That may be the plan considering the magnitude of this game…who knows. However, the only issue is, usually quite a few of those who don’t perform in the actual UIL contest show still wouldn’t be able to stay because they contribute in other areas like loading/unloading props, flags, instruments, equipment, and uniform crew. Hopefully, some of our “rabid fans” will step up to get War Chant going and keep the crowd involved.

At the homecoming game it appeared that 20-25+ % of the band that was on the field with instruments went to the sideline and watched the competition performance.

I'm lound and proud and I'll be at the game.
Also note that the best players for the band will be out so what will be left may not be acceptable. IE try playing football without any or few skilled positions and coaches.
So let's cut the band some slack.

If someone wants to drop by my clinic on i10 I’ll let you borrow my bass drum
(I do need it back) but I’m not joking if someone in the forum wants to do that

Yeah, I highly doubt there’s this much “panic” and concern when other bands leave early, haha…so I see it as a huge COMPLIMENT because it shows how much they’re VALUED and what a integral part of PNG Friday Night Lights they are!

I agree
If it was any other band I’m like
Meh
Whatever
That’s a huge compliment past and present

Our band plays a very important role in our games. I love them. I actually hate games when they aren't present. Tonights game is huge. the timing is just awful. I wish the school would have just put them up in a hotel in Houston.
