Just a theory

It feels like sometimes on runs some of the secondary has “gap filling”
Primary in their mind

Over paying attention to the runner

Like one time we keyed two on the runner on the option but none on the QB ball carrier
Yes in theory it’s gap discipline very good
But possession is 9/10 of the law
If you don’t tackle the ball carrier none of the rest matters
Something is missing on the defense
Can’t put my finger on it exactly

But it’s not too late to fix it and win out.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on PNG's field goal kicking. I am not here to jump on a young guy who is prob. trying very hard...just thinking about the two missed kicks last week, and that even if one of them had been made the game could have had a very different outcome. I have noticed that the snaps back to the holder are sometimes high, which throws off the holder, which, in turn, throws off the kicker. I hope the whole situation can be improved.

Deep snaps have been an issue for years. Although FG kicking worked out very well last season.

If the offense had finished the drives and scored TDs it would have been a non-factor. What’s crazy is the Indians could have practically run it 3 yards and a cloud of rubber pellets every play and scored a TD. Mano a Mano. But when you hand the ball off 5 yards deep and the back stops/dances at the line, that’s not going to happen against a team waiting for that play. But part of that is on the offensive line as blocks were missed on multiple plays that might have sprung the back for a long gain or at least a good run. All it takes is one broken link to make the chain ineffective. That kind of misfiring adds up.

Montgomery defense got demoralized against LC and Huntsville especially.
That’s what we will (should) do
We re playing for a championship
This game is a must win
We don’t want to travel to Marshall for bi district
(Although I do think we will sweep bi district all 4) could be wrong and according to who is 4th
I definitely could be wrong but I believe we are the strongest district in 5A d1 in all 4 regions

It will be a tough weekend for the players. They’re going to feel like they let everyone down, including themselves. The #1 rank, win streak nonsense is over. But they’re still a talented team with great coaching that needs to wake up and play like every quarter is the last. To steal a line from Trump, “it should have never happened.” The Indians played the last 13 minutes against Nederland like they could have played the entire game and won convincingly.

Come Monday they need to get back on that winning horse, and work harder than ever. Watch that game film and take ownership of any mistakes. And hold each other accountable. Tackle better, play the pass better, block better, run better, kick better. Run better plays. Coaches will soul search too.

Montgomery is in for a payback effort from the Indians.
Many here posted in the preseason and early on the development of a complimentary passing game would bring this team to the top. Sadly as many have posted through out the season that development has not happened or progressed.
There is nothing in the Xs and Os
background of PNG rookie OC to suggest he has the background or ability to create and perform at this level as an OC.
the thinking must be no one can mess up this great offensive opportunity?
our rookie OC will once again be out coached and along with “panic play calling” at all the wrong critical times in the game to lose it while putting the PNG defense on their heels. You should be play calling at least two plays ahead to set up your opponent.
Offensive minds are recognized by their demonstrated brilliance
not handed the keys to an offense with 4 returning all district offensive linemen, a returning #15 RB, a returning #11 WR, a returning #40 HB, a returning #44 TE, a stable of four RBs.
Learning on the job is not acceptable this is not middle school. We have very talented athletes that can take proper direction and continue to be successful. The season report card is out on the rookie OC. You are what you are. These Kids deserve so much more for their hard work and dedication. As someone previously posted: doing the same thing over and over expecting a different out come is insanity (definition of being out coached and out of your league). I am going to say it again that #11 is our WC QB who can both pass and run out of the position. what a waste of talent. Get on board rookie OC you have run out of time. It is sad that that this point of the season we are now relying on a very talented freshman #17 receiver to make critical 3rd down “deep” pass receptions to keep the offense on the field. A day late and a dollar short.
Also, Most high school coaches and teams would give anything to have a kicker with a leg that can attempt 45 yd FGs. It takes the whole team to execute perfectly for it to succeed. Perfect practice makes perfect. Don’t ignore in victory what you would correct in defeat.
I don’t have that many days or years left to enjoy PNG Indian Nation experience. I want PNG pride, honor, and tradition to always be transferred to the next generation.

It’s not over yet. But I guess fans are struggling with the concept of returning a strong core and possibly falling too far from the level set last season. There are a lot of factors. This fan doesn’t pretend to know what they all are but does believe that strong fundamentals on top of skill makes for a tough combination.

Connor Bailey’s arm indeed can be a more impactful weapon.

I'm optimistic. PN-G will bounce back on Friday. The Indians will play well and secure a share of the DC (before tie-brakers). There's a whole lot to play for...there's a whole season ahead of the Indians--PLAYOFF SEASON. PN-G gets rolling this Friday night. Watch out, Bears! Indians on the war path. GO INDIANS!!!

Your post reminded me of Bluto's famous speech in Animal House. (Yes, I know, I am showing my age.)

If the HC who took us to runner up first year
State championship second year
After a 25 year “dry spell”
Doesn’t have a problem with the offensive play calling
Then I don’t either
We definitely were going to score on our last drive vs Nederland if not for the errant throw
Hindsight is 20/20
And if we had we would still have our winning streak
Yes , you’d like to win especially vs your rival
But so far the strategy has been right on
So much so we easily could have been back to back state champs

I’m sort of joking but when I have a friend whose teenager is going a little wild
I say “so.. what’s the grandkids going to call you? Mammaw? Nana?

Well I say the same thing in a “god forbid way”
Who will we hire when Joseph moves on out of “what have you done for me lately”
Mentality. ?
We may not like the short term right now

But anyone have any gripes about the last two years?

I like where your trying to go with this.
Especially thinking about how it impacts the coaches, players, etc. and the consequences that follow.
Try to have a little more faith and support for the ones that KNOW what is best.
I've got no problem with folks "venting" their frustrations/opinions here as long as none of the players, coaches, wives, etc. are looking at it or they have a very thick skin as I'm sure they do.
I'll be at the game tomorrow screaming DEFENSE or whatever is needed at the time but I won't be saying anything publicly that could discourage the ones that we love.
GO PNG

“They just beat us,” said PNG coach Jeff Joseph. “I thought we practiced well all week. I don’t think we put our quarterback in great situations the whole game. We missed some things early that we should have had, and we should have taken some more shots down the field early in the game. In order for us to win games we are going to have to run the ball, and we weren’t consistent doing that tonight and that’s an issue. “We just didn’t finish. We have to help our kids out and put them in better positions. You have to give them (Nederland) some credit, they played good and made some plays.”

- Jeff Joseph

Words of a great coach. That translates to needing to execute better and needing to plan better. That’s all any of us have said here. The 2024 team can play better, in all aspects, and have a shot at repeating. Nothing personal. It’s football. The opportunities were there last Friday and will
be there every week going forward. Seize the moments.

Reminder…Jeff Joseph at PNG has winning streaks of 13 and 22 after a loss. He knows what he is doing and will straighten things up.
And reason I said Montgomery is in for a rough game. And then on to the future challenges, one week at a time!

That recent close loss has probably stuck in Coach Joseph’s craw a lot worse than any fan. Here come the Indians.
