Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on PNG's field goal kicking. I am not here to jump on a young guy who is prob. trying very hard...just thinking about the two missed kicks last week, and that even if one of them had been made the game could have had a very different outcome. I have noticed that the snaps back to the holder are sometimes high, which throws off the holder, which, in turn, throws off the kicker. I hope the whole situation can be improved.

Practice Practice. Coaches and returning players can’t live off the reputation of Last years Offensive player of the State Championship. complacency is the root to failure.

Including the election

If Huntsvilles loses to Nederland. Huntsville (3 district losses) out of the playoffs. Fourth place Tie breaker goes to MLC if MLC beat the two bottom dwellers. These are PNG signature district “Wins”? PNG may finish 2nd or third place depending on the outcome of Montgomery and Dayton games.
Such a fall due to no complimentary passing game from the start by the rookie OC. How much of the previous last two years success should the previous OC be given.

It feels like sometimes on runs some of the secondary has “gap filling”
Primary in their mind

Over paying attention to the runner

Like one time we keyed two on the runner on the option but none on the QB ball carrier
Yes in theory it’s gap discipline very good
But possession is 9/10 of the law
If you don’t tackle the ball carrier none of the rest matters
Something is missing on the defense
Can’t put my finger on it exactly

But it’s not too late to fix it and win out.

Need #44 and #40 on defense setting the outside edge. See ball carrier destroy ball carrier. If you can pancake a LB or DB on offense then you have the mentality to destroy an end sweep on defense.

Early in the season the snaps were off. From the middle of the season on the holder couldn’t get the ball done clean on misses. Even with all of these miscues the kicker was missing by close margins. Holder needs practice and/or better hands. Do not ignore in victory what you would not in defeat. Need a TE slipping into end zone on a designated pass play in case the holder once again fumbles the snap.

I agree there was a play in Montgomery game where our OLB became a flatfooted spectator and made no movement towards the runner crossing in front of him. Keep looking towards the sideline afraid to leave his “area” of responsibility? Do not have to remain and hold your position to set the edge on an inside run. If PNG middle defense had forced the runner to the side lines, LB angle of pursuit would have been bad and trailing the play if he had moved at all toward the runner.

Just a reminder that half or more of the defense are first year players or starters including juniors and sophomores and the offense lost a few core players. These 15-17 year olds can continue to improve. Also have to believe that the coaches are very much aware and capable of deciding who takes the field and gives the team the best chance for success. We're talking about a staff that has coached two teams to the state championship game. They are doing the best with what they have and working to improve play. There are reasons for everything, many of which aren't publicly debatable. But yes, as football fans have done from the begining of time, in every town, we can sure hope and wonder how different players might contribute more. That's Texas high school football support at it's best.

I don’t know how many times I screamed “Outside contain!” during the game last week. Seems to have become my weekly ritual this year.

One thing I was reminded of with young players is learning the fundamentals of the game. There can be a noticebale difference between a player that plays his position 'correctly', and one who has progressed AND IS CAPABLE of covering his responsibility AND making a great play. For example, holding your ground against a blocker and turning the ball carrier back in so that inside pursuit can make a play is a fundamental responsibility for containing end runs. Getting around those blocks and making an amazing open field tackle is a great play. Not every player can do that. And a young player may not even realize he can go above and beyond, anyway legally possible, unless he has great technique coaching (show them how it’s done) and/or learns from watching better players and experience. On a few of those plays Montgomery's #12 had too much speed for the defense to react in time to make the tackle. And Montgomery has some big blockers who got after the defense.
