Personally, apples to apples…I think we looked WAY better for the first game than how we started out the last 2 seasons against PAM and things turned out pretty darn well, so I’m not concerned. Of course, the path back to Jerry’s World is gonna be a lot tougher thanks to the UIL but we have some of the BEST “navigators” and “copilots” in the STATE!!

Memorial has a better program than Klein Oak, but I agree that we looked much better last night than what I recall seeing against Memorial last year.

Everyone will see again that game 1 was more like a scrimmage. Just like Memorial was. If we had played Memorial later in the season, a win would have been likely.

Coaches and players will fix the weaknesses, and the strengths will become stronger as the season progresses. It’s all at a pretty good starting point. As mentioned, even better than the last two years. I bet Klein Oak would agree to that.

The O Line looked pretty rusty and didn't impress me, like i thought they would. However, KO had some really big guys up front. I think this was a really good test for us. KO is a really good team with a lot of speed. They almost broke several long runs. I think KO will make some noise too.
Overall, happy with the "W", although not pretty at times.

Yeah, probably just first game “jitters” and seems like a few were in different positions on the line which could be a factor. I think we’ve all been in the State Championship “honeymoon” phase and probably have some slightly unrealistic expectations so mistakes stand out more than usual…which is natural. But just like NFL pre-season, and non-conference College games…high school coaches, some more so than others, use non-district to evaluate strengths/weakness, players for starting positions, try different formations, work on communication, timing…etc. which usually isn’t very pretty.

Yes, PN-G's band performed first followed by Klein Oak. I can't comment on the Klein Oak halftime performance. After the Marching I finished, my kids and I used Klein Oak's band time for a comfort/bathroom break and standing in line at the concessions stand. PN-G's band was outstanding. In the all purple uniforms; a sharp look. Looks like some kids have brand new instruments, e.g., shiny silver tubas and brass trombones and saxophones. Klein Oak's band was in shorts and T-shirts.

I counted fourteen tubas in the band this year. Fourteen. At that rate, they had to buy new tubas, otherwise they would’ve had more players than instruments.

Also just want to point out that the band representing 5A PN-G with ~1,700 total students was nearly twice as big as the band representing 6A Klein Oak and its ~3,700 total students.

As a band nerd
(I wasn’t in the band but both parents band teachers)
We’ve had 12-14 tubas for a while
(I brag to my mom and dad)
UH’s band only had 16 at most times

Yes they’re expensive the silver brass ones can go $20-30K

But not as much as I miss the old way the Indian Spirit danced
Way different now
I used to imitate it as a kid and could reproduce it even today the way it was in the 70s
