Mental preparation has to be key each and every week. Just ask a team that lost to Plano 13 to 10! Indians can bounce back. JMO

Agreed!! And our Defensive Cord. needs to make adjustments on the fly. Cannot stand our defensive strategy. Would love to see us be alot more aggressive, not the bend but not break philosophy.

agreed we got out played, out coached, out hussled and now time to regroup! it is just like the State Champs of "75 - lost to South Houston Sept of 1975 came back beat them like 32 - 6 in Regioals and won 27 straight more until Churchhill Dec. 76

I think the band needs to start playing some stuff to keep the boys and fans pumped up throughout the game and please quit playing "I'm a Little Teacup"

That is a band tradition that started in the 1999 state championship run. It's played with 2:22 left in the third quarter at every game. You know what they say about tradition at PN-G.

Bamakid,
I didn't realize that! I guess it signals the end of the 3rd, so they can get back to playing, since they typically take the 3rd off.

91,
The reason for my :thud:, was it just caught me odd that we somehow expect the band to bail us out when things aren't going our way???

Do this... pay attention to when we are needing a REALLY big stop on defense, and we play the Tomohawk song.
I estimate that 80-90% of the times we play it, our efforts fail. I'm not joking either. Meaning... the band has little or NO effect on what actually happens on the field. Unless of course, it's that loud crap that Central plays, and I hope we NEVER play that noise!

Totally agree! It seems that War Chant does nothing but fire up the other team...lol! ??? I know the players have more to focus on than what the band is playing! I think most people realize that, or they should!! It's more for the fans, and although it shouldn't be this way...I think the crowd would get into it more if the music were a little livelier! And, our crowd noise does have a effect on both teams!! But, we don't need to go down that road again! I just really hope our fans show up and get rowdy when our special guests come Nov 8!! I'm thinking I may need to relocate where I sit for that game cause they will be sitting with me, and the folks around me aren't exactly the rowdiest! ::)

 :thud:

I'm just amazed by this statement. This football team has managed to get 3 wins so far this year and as soon as they lose a game that they probably should have won, you turn to the band!! REALLY? The band has played the same type music for all of the games win or lose. Who will be next, the Cheerleaders for not cheering loud enough or the Indianettes for not holding up enough signs or making noise? JMO

No...I wasn't referring to just this game but all games...it just seems like all we play is Cherokee..even when the fans are chanting defense the drumline doesn't get involved...go out there Friday night and I guarantee you just about the whole time we are on offense the central band will be playing as loud as they can...trust me it makes a difference...I can tell you from experience

I do go out there every Friday for the past 24 years. I know all about Central's band. . . .and I can promise you that Mr. Wells will NEVER allow our band to perform like that. And thank goodness because the sound that comes from their band really doesn't sound like music to me. I have to admit, their drums are loud and I do like that, but the rest . . . not so much. Again JMO!

I miss the days when marching band was about entertaining the crowds with fun songs, different shows each week and having fun in the stands. Now it seems its all geared towards scoring superior ratings at the UIL marching competition.

I will give big props to Katy High School's band. They do a great job of playing fun loud songs when the opposing team is on offense and always seem to be able to get the crowd rocking in the stands.

Back to football...we need to establish a presence at the line of scrimmage and win some battles...if we do not fix the defense and find a way to stop the run, then we will have uphill battles winning against Central, nederland, Ozen, Vidor, and Livingston. The jags, bulldogs, panthers, pirates and lions will run up and down the field on us unless we win some battles on the OL and DL. We will win or lose depending upon what we do in the trenches.

Go Indians. Peace.

Putting another bigger body on the line might help plug the gaps and keep the linebackers free to react.

I expect the Indians to bounce back and win big Friday night. Last week was an off night.

I hope you are right, IndianFan. I was not at the PN-G v. LC-M game in-person, but I watched it 2x on the link you provided in another message board thread. LC-M moved us off the line of scrimmage and the LC-M RBs were ripping off large chunks of real estate. On offense, we seemed to have a difficult time keeping them blocked. The put pressure on us with a basic front. We should have stuck with our run game more, but what is done is done. On to Central. We need to win the battles in the trenches. Whenever PN-G has had good teams, i.e., deep playoff runs, the Indians had kids on the OL and DL that controlled the line of scrimmage. Plus we had some play makers, e.g., Ethridge, Green, Landry, Eicher, Long, Wortham, etc. But, it all starts up front. I know our kids will play with effort, passion and determination...here's to a W on Friday vs. Central.

Go Indians.

The theory behind the swinging gate is, if they are going to give you a free point, take it. It's ALL about numbers. You take what they give you. I didn't see the first attempt on Friday (was working the concession stand) but was told that the play was there, but the pass was too low.

ndn78, all I was saying was that you are asking questions that ONLY BF can answer for certain. Everyone on here has their own idea as to why something was done a certain way, and they all could be wrong. But, why not ask him yourself, when you have that opportunity AND the man will answer any question you have?

Nothing wrong with the questions! Nothing wrong with doubting his strategies either. But if you really want the true answers, they are there for the asking.

Have a great day.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????
talked to another Head Coach this morning and ask this question and his response is if nothing else it forced the other team to dedicate practice time to go over the play every day the week they play us.
not only do they have to be on our side BUT in position too.

I have never been a fan of a 3 man D front line. I know we bring up a linebacker to make it look like a 4 man line but in my experiences watching it, not just PNG, but other teams, College and Pro, they all seem to have problems with stopping the run and getting pressure into the back field. To me a 3 man line leaves to many O linemen available to block down on line backers. JMO.

+1 pngfan66. It's called the bend, but don't break defense. No aggression at all. Set back and let them come to you. Corners play 10 yards off line.

Really? Dick LeBeau's Pittsburgh Steelers defense and Nick Saban's Alabama defense would like a word with you! Those are two defenses off the top of my head that run a 3-4 and have been dominant run stoppers. I'm not saying that the 3-4 fits our personnel or the way we run it is the same, that is for our coaches to decide. I'm just saying that to claim 3-4 defenses can't stop the run is pretty silly.

Ok those teams mentioned may do well with it. But they have hoss' up there too. I know Manginni is big. My experience with a 3-4 D is from high school and college ball. I was a O lineman. We loved playing a 3-4 D. We could run on a D with it all day long. Bring in a Tight end and you have a 6 man O line. Double teams with slide off blocker on backer and you were almost guaranteed 4-6 yards a pop. Also in a passing situation you have more control over the D linemen front. I'm not saying anything derogatory about PNG's D. I just see that, as mentioned in another's post, you have, or need 3 large D linemen to make it happen. Watch the LCM game. Our D line was smothered all night long. Backers were being blocked well from slide off blocks. Manginni was double and sometimes triple teamed. To me it just leaves to many O linemen to stop your linebackers. That is from my experience. I know and do trust what the coaches have chosen to run on defense. Its there call. I guess we can all just agree to disagree.
