Obviously, I am very happy with the final outcome of this great MCM contest, however I never once thought from the opening kickoff that things were going to be in our favor. The final minutes of the game proved how much heart and desire the Indians have, the way your kids fought back with determination and physical play definitely impressed me (and to be honest, scared the daylights outta me). I was fully expecting to see you score on that last play and send the game into OT. Your kids and coaches deserve a world of credit (and not complaints) for having the fortitude to battle so hard throughout the game, and again especially in the last quarter. Our biggest advantage last night was having Forney and Sonnier both back and in great form. THAT was the difference, imo. And I was impressed with our play calling (for a change), mixing up the spread and w'cat offenses.
All told it was one of the best and most exciting HS games that this area has ever seen.
The guys who broadcast for KLVI interviewed some gent that runs or operates a Texas HS sports museum somewhere in the Dallas area (I believe). This guy said that he has heard about our great rivalry for years and finally made it to town to witness it for himself. The man was VERY impressed with what he saw from both sides and the whole atmosphere of the game and all the pre-game festivities at both schools and stated that THIS was one of the most outstanding rivalries he has ever witnessed.
If I understood the announcers correctly, there should be a good spread about this in one of the local Sundays newspapers. (sorry the details on this are kinda sketchy but I had a hard time understanding alot of their conversation.
Even though I was unable to attend last niight's game (due to personal reasons), I still felt the excitement throughout the entire game.
Best of luck neighbors throughout the rest of your season and keep the faith...things WILL improve.
