PNG OL lacks the road graders of the past that you recall and depend on for your comments above. The DCTXHSFB and AP preseason rankings are based on PNG having exceptional skill players on offense while OL and DL are being rebuilt. For an inexperienced OL pass protection in preseason with talented WRs keeps you in these games.

Brenham, Crawford, (and hopefully SOC) front seven defenses are capable of making opposing offenses one dimensional if the passing game fails.

As a fan was more concern before the start of the season whether the OC could utilize this wealth of offensive skill sets. Reliving History is wonderful for memories. Reality calls for day to day adjustments. A “quick” lead this season allows for repetitive ground game OL run development and necessary OL depth run development in game time situations.

The second half of the WB game was all about taking time off the playclock with a big lead.

In the past watching PNG College D1 OL candidates pan cake opposition DL/LBs was viewed with a sense of PNG pride and admiration.

If HC Jeff Joseph believes in OC strategy for this season that’s good enough for me. Your comments are indirectly aimed at the entire PNG coaching staff. You should just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Since the 2022 season, on the way to a 53-7 record, there have been 3 D1 level linemen. Jansen Ware, Jackson Christian and Aaron Wolford. And a couple of other good sized players like Pena and Black. The seasons with both Christian and Wolford were the signature years. All great players. But those wins would not have happened without the other 17 linemen doing their job. That’s all that’s needed in 2026. With 6-3 290# Ace Reeves as the cornerstone.

One thing that got overlooked during the game is our special teams play. 2 blocked kicks - when’s the last time we did that AND got points off of both? I’d be willing to say slim to none. They did a great job last night getting after the ball. Kudos to those kids and the special teams coach!

Some observations so far

#1 Benkert is our most improved player (he just had a great return while I was typing)
Ashworth throws a great ball off his back foot which he needs because while our OL IS protecting they’re getting bull rushed during pass protection (they’re keeping their body between the DL and the QB)
WHICH IS GOOD
We are a kicker factory (place kicker)
Next week QB is similar to this week just more athletic
22 Valdivinos is a good player great addition
Montgomery is a legit backup at RB

Good Observations:
Gohlke has the god given talents to excel.

Benkert has put in the work and is becoming one of the go to WRs.

Waguespack has made some difficult critical catches.

Vadivinos and Sullivan are catching the ball.

Still waiting for Spring Game Star sophomore WR Peyton Woods to make the jump to varsity.

They are all focused on catching the ball and deserve the spot light.

A significant coaching job from the first game disaster in all phases of STP. Keep up the good work. Continue to coach them up. Repetition. Perfect practice makes for winning execution in game. STP wins or loses games. Very important third phase of the game.
