I personally think every 5A and higher school should be building 10,000-12,000 seat stadiums.

Minimum the “bulldozer bowl” where there’s grass in the bowl sort of what they do at the LLWS outfield (huge hill they slide down when empty) for overflow seating
No reason most HS stadiums should ever sell out - should always have a SRO space

In the days of old, before my time, Indian Stadium reportedly had as many as 16,000 watching games. SRO, probably lined the fences that used to be around the field.

For the Deer Park game, I noticed the visiting band and drill team in chairs on the track. Will they be doing that with the PNG band as well?

Indian band is 300+ counting Indianettes, etc. I hope they can spread enough chairs out. Trombones will need an extra 3’ of space!

Two headed LP rushing attack with Simon and Ruffin. PNG defense is tough against the run but the Bulldogs are going to be the greatest test to date. The biggest improvement that the Indians offense will benefit from is more consistent blocking and more run production. Take some time off the clock and score. Keep the defense fresh.

This will be an interesting matchup for sure.

I was impressed with special team kickoff strategy in first game against Klein Oak. Then reverted to deep kickoffs against Beaumont United. If PNG special team kickoff strategy in the La Porte game is to kick deep to Simon and Ruffin then will be giving up freebie touchdown gifts. Will hope PNG learned from last season. yeah, you can’t let those two (Simon especially) build up a head of steam. Dude’s a problem, and Ruffin is no joke.

Re the old PNG stadium, the fence around the track would always be packed, even with empty seats available in the stands.

I like this PNG defense. We’re seeing a lot of carryover from the tough JV defense of last year. Jaxon Winfrey may be the best PNG linebacker in a while. Not huge, but has a nose for the ball, gets there fast and packs a wallop when he arrives. Smart player. Brashers is a similar player at inside linebacker. Defensive line, although smaller than prior years is stout. Defensive backfield also looks to be improved. La Porte is a powerhouse running team. This will be a battle.

PNG NG #99 Kash Barnwell is having a tremendous season so far. Two batted down passes with one being intercepted and run back for a touchdown by Barnwell. Not to mention TFLs. He running sideline to sideline to help stop on opponent RB end sweeps. Very intelligent football player.

Coach: Kevin Berneathy. Lettermen R/L: 31/25. Starters returning O/D: 7/7. 2024: 10-4 region finalist/7-0 district.

Players to watch: RB Sean Simon (5-11, 195), WR Peyton Smith (6-2, 180), LB Ashton Ruffin (5-10, 205), S Blake Stout (5-10, 175), OL Jake Hayman (6-3, 315), DL Luke Mora (6-2, 295). Top juniors: LB Caden Watson (6-2, 205), TE Ryker Reynolds (6-3, 235). Top sophomore: QB Josh Wells (6-2, 170).

Other prospects: QB Aiden Saenz, DL David Campos, RB/DB Kylen Carter, LB Raymond Gibbs, DB Tryston Oaks, OL Grady Ferranti, WR Dyson Godbolt-Carr, DL Jacob Berneathy.

2025 notes: The Bulldogs had a breakthrough season with a district title and regional final run before falling to district rival Angleton. Berneathy’s squad could be ready to challenge for a state title with seven starters back on both sides of the ball, headlined by sophomore RB Simon (1,609 yards, 21 TDs rushing) who could develop into one of the nation’s top ball carriers. WR Smith (15-280, 2 TDs receiving) is another sophomore that will likely emerge as a Power Four recruit. OL Hayman, a three-year starter, and TE Reynolds, who has started since his freshman season, are both dominant run blockers. LB Ruffin (90 tackles, 10 TFL) and S Stout (80 tackles, 3 INTs) lead a fast and physical defensive unit. The biggest question mark for La Porte will be youth and inexperience in the secondary.

We're playing the 5th ranked team in a higher classification, and they seem to be picking right up where they left off last season, reportedly with lots of returning starters. But this is more than ok for us. Our first two games have been good for checking things out and getting lots of players onto the field. This game will serve to really see where we stand, and see what we've got going forward, hopefully without any injuries. Regardless of the outcome, this is an excellent pre-district match-up for us. We'll see the best RBs that we'll face all regular season IMO, and as good as any OL.

We’re not the favorite, but that’s what pre-season is for. Right now it’s about learning how to execute when it matters most. If we do everything right and lose by 100, I’m ok with that. I don’t like losing, but it’s better than doing everything wrong and winning and then not learning to correct what’s wrong for down the road.
