Hi. I'm posting this message in hope that someone affiliated with the site or a user of it can help me make sure that Port Neches-Groves is represented in a landmark book to be published later this year. An esteemed SE Texas non-profit football entity is using the book as a fundraiser for their organization.
This is not an advertisement for the book, but one of the last options I currently have to insure that "Port Neches" HS is included in the book.
The book concerns the origins of Southeast Texas football, pre-1930, combining vintage football photos with vintage graphics. The different counties represented in the book account for the different chapters, and Jefferson County is well represented.
At this stage of the book's production, all Jefferson County schools except Port Neches High School are included (recognizing that the name change to Port Neches-Groves HS occurred in 1956) because of a "roadblock" that I hope you can help me overcome.
Several months ago I spoke with the Port Neches-Groves HS librarian who was kind enough to refer to Dr. Buck Ford's "Down Trails of Victory" and confirm that pre-1930 Port Neches football photos were contained in the book.
I subsequently found what I guess was a podcast produced by Buck Ford's in association with a Port Neches-Groves HS page that I since have not been able to locate. At the time that I did find that page, I sent an
message to him via the site's internal messaging system regarding the hope of using the pre-1930 photos appearing in the book, but there has been no response. I'm not sure if the message was received.
At this point I'm hoping that someone on this site either knows how to contact Buck or knows someone who can. My request would be for Buck to either send me high resolution image files, or to give me permission to scan the images in his book. Again, this would only be for pre-1930 Port Neches High School football images.
This is the only means I'm aware of by which I could obtain such images for the book. I hope for anyone's and everyone's help in this matter. Thanks for your interest.
