Saw this discussion in the SOC vs Argyle game chat and I’m confused…what PORTAL is this person talking about? Is that even a thing in High School or open enrollment districts? I guess there could be a “portal” of sorts to keep track of students who have requested a transfer within districts that have multiple high schools which could explain how SOC and others are acquiring all these ATHLETES, even though they’re only transferring for “ACADEMIC” purposes or other reasons BESIDES Athletics of course

They’ll deny any and all infractions and throw out the r word. Deny and deflect.
Yep! That same attitude and behavior is being passed on to the players which is why a lot of them who do earn possibly their ONLY shot to get a EDUCATION and play at the next level usually don’t succeed…VERY SAD!

Never have I so appreciated the importance of fair play in high school sports. Always assuming that was a given for the most part. Perhaps naive to a certain extent. Maybe old school thinking. Of course teams always look for advantages, but keep it within the rules, and keep Texas high school football honorable. And respectful.

SAME! All the “shadiness”, UNETHICAL behavior, and blatant disregard of rules and Sportsmanship I’ve witnessed the last few years has definitely been eye opening and VERY disappointing! However it’s gonna continue to be a PROBLEM and get WORSE as long as the current ANTIQUATED rules/regulations are in place! At some point coaches, administrators, parents, fans…etc who do things the RIGHT way, follow the rules, and VALUE Sportsmanship, Integrity, and Fairness are gonna have to band together in order to put pressure on the UIL to DO SOMETHING or it’ll NEVER happen!!

The rules are simple, if you transfer and you are a high school student u have to sit out of athletics for a year. Open enrollment is here to stay so you cannot prevent kids from moving schools, but if they have to sit out a year it will at least deter from moving their senior year to stack a team like SOC did.
In order to compete consistently at the highest level, we will have to have open enrollment also. That is something I do not want and will never get behind; it has ruined high school football for the most part.

Maybe here to stay for districts that allow it. It’s not a state mandate.

So we will always have teams that have an added advantage. To put it in perspective, Dallas ISD has about 150,000+ students. Dallas ISD allows students to transfer to a district school of their choice regardless of their zoning and accepts transfers from other districts. PNG ISD has around 5,000 students and builds teams from its own students. The UIL must place teams that are comprised of transfers into a similar competitive category. No wonder some people were so shocked in 2023.

Two towns, one dream. Less than 30,000 in population. Beautiful history and legacy. Generations of families attending the school, and playing the game, in the band, etc. And new families who move here and start new family legacies. An example of what Texas HS football is really about. Not about one coach seeking recognition, not about how many wins or championships. About honor, pride and tradition. And we joyfully take the championships when we earn them.

Actually it is up to the other schools within the district to require them to sit a year. SOC is in an all DISD district and DISD is just rubber stamping transfers because SOC has brought them Pride they haven’t seen in years.
Even if we were OE I would suspect at least one school in the district would deny any transfer waiver.
The UIL was so worried about Private schools playing in UIL football playoffs with recruiting that when they finally allowed it they ruled that the advantage would require them to play in the highest classification (6A) no matter their enrollment which was the right thing to do. I say do the same with OE. That would stop it. Notice only a few privates chose to play in UIL. Funny though that the UIL now doesn’t care about the issue.

I definitely understand the pride part, that is a good thing. I also agree with you and a few others on here that if you are gonna "recruit" then you need to be playing at the highest level. Make no mistake, building good programs that were previously struggling helps the kids and the community and I'm all for that. If you are gonna build programs that way, it shouldn't be at the cost of schools that follow the rules and do it the right way.

Watched a few minutes of the state championship production. The old coach that wears the cowboy hat was talking about how great athletes come to programs like Carthage, Aledo, Gunter.

Yeah, it’s a big reality in those programs with so many state titles and in it every year. Statistically it’s nearly impossible under natural circumstances no matter how good your coaching is. Even a few players with above average talent can be the difference maker. The equivalent of taking steroids in a competition.

Turned it off when the babbling Pickle started her monologue. I watch the games but turn off or mute the rest of it.

Ken Purcell - the Cowboy Coach who claims 10 or 12 state championships, yet he never won a state title as a head coach. Two rings as a Plano assistant coach (one against PN-G in 1977) and the rest of his rings were won when he served as an AD at Allen, I think. He's a blow hard for Dallas area teams. I'm sure he will say whatever the narrative needs to be to justify the player transfers in DFW and the surrounding suburbs. I watch the games but I'm not intereted in the pre-game or post-game commentary. Today, I am a Woodville Eagles fan. Go Indians Woodville Eagles.

He also said teams like Gunter don’t make mistakes. What a load of bull. All high school players eventually make mistakes. Gunter has already made several in the game.

It’s obvious that the UIL/DCTF/whatever other entity involved has 100% commitment to these different narratives for certain programs. And they’ll follow that script no matter what. Building brand I guess that think sells TV views. Best option may be to turn down the audio and just watch the action.
