For such a “underprivileged” program and school…they got more “drip” than a lot of college teams! 3-4 different unis and helmets, top of the line gloves in EVERY color, new flashy jumpsuits for the coaching staff every year, chains…etc!! They might wanna consider putting some of that $ towards game management lessons for Coach Todd…lol!

Won’t be a problem because like most new schools in greater Houston they will be moving up in classification. If I had to guess they are probably upwards of 1950 students now and will be over 2000 by August 2025. Which is another issue the UIL never deals with.

To use the jargon of the UIL guy that was interviewed Saturday, ‘competitive equity’ is a goal of the UIL in aligning things. They seem to talk out of both sides of their mouth, clearly giving the edge to some programs.

Like all forms of social engineering, decisions are made based on factors of their choosing.

So why not aim for equal opportunity instead of equity? Equal outcomes can never be controlled. Equal opportunities can be influenced. That would be accomplished by enforcing old rules playing with the players zoned for your school and in classifications with similar student populations in the same area of the state. Simple formula. Even with that, some districts will find ways to bend rules. Especially if the UIL athletic rules don't take precedent over district decisions like open enrollment. In that case, enforce rules to require athletes to sit for at least one year.

He also talked about having successfully found ways to reduce travel. I suspect that’s another subjective decision based on some equity equation or politics. Someone always gets the short end of the stick when that thinking is in control. Ask all of the 8-5A teams that were moved out of their natural region to Region 2 how that worked out. Start with Nederland.

Just something to think about. And the 'times are changing', 'better go with the flow or get left behind' is not a reasonable response. Some standards and rules will always apply. Or at least should remain relevant if fairness across the board is the objective. Winning more games doesn't justify lowering standards that are in place for good reason.
