Riley Dodge leaving SLC

Public records show Dodge making substantially less than Coach Joseph in 2024. SLC position is HC only and no AD title.
Good to know, thanks for the info! I can’t think of a better opportunity at the high school level than what he’s got at PNG but I am a little biased…lol

A big jump from 2024. Then it may be time for a big salary bump at PNG. Along with that larger salary in SLC comes a high level of pressure that probably does not exist at PN-G.

But if that situation appeals to Coach Joseph then it’s his fate to reach for it. He deserves any and every opportunity. But one thing that won’t be larger in Southlake is fan support and student participation which at smaller Port Neches-Groves is greater than SLC. Yes PNG is smaller, with fewer state championships and is not the wealthy Southlake in a much larger DFW area. But that comes with a downside too if you prefer smaller towns near the outdoors. The cost of living is also quite a bit more in the SL area.

It was good fortune that Jeff Joseph landed at PN-G. I guess we’ll soon see if that good fortune remains and if he will continue building his own dynasty in Port Neches. There is still much for him to accomplish here and good players coming up in the next several years. And last but not least, SLC has nothing to offer in terms of how much a community values him and his legacy. PNG is the pinnacle of that category. No better place in the state for that and everyone knows it.

Another factor, Jeff Joseph is still building his program at PNG. The best is yet to come. Fantastic new facilities are on the way including a high end covered practice building and one of the largest weight rooms in the state. And more. PN-G is committed to building the program with Joseph at the helm.

At PN-G, Joseph is THE standard, not the successor. And PN-G is one of the most stable situations in Texas.

My bet is they Hire in House someone who is already familiar with Riley’s system OR they go after Todd Dodge,I believe it would be easier to out bid LoveJoy than it would be to out bid PNG for Joesph.

Why Jeff Joseph Should Stay at PN-G

Some think “bigger name” = better opportunity. But the smartest coaches know it’s about control, legacy, and community.

At Port Neches-Groves, Jeff Joseph has it all:

-Built a state championship program from the ground up.
-Full control over staff and culture.
-A loyal community that backs him every play
-Stability & lifestyle balance that lets him focus on winning.
-New facilities in the works.
- The cost of living index in Southlake is 1.6x higher than the national average.
-The cost of living index in Port Neches is 98, with 100 being the average.

Southlake Carroll is great — but PN-G isn’t a stepping stone. It’s a destination where dynasties are built. And at PN-G, a 101 year old program, Jeff Joseph has quickly risen to become THE standard with much more greatness to come.

And he’s got the opportunity to create his OWN legacy at PNG…while SLC will always be associated with Dodge! Plus, being able to build a championship program with HOMEGROWN athletes, especially in 5A or 6A is just another thing that will define his LEGACY at PNG because it’s very difficult to do these days!

I’m hearing from an inside source that Joesph is in fact engaged I do not want to give out any details other than that because as of now it’s still a rumor until they confirm it themselves BUT if true it’s DEFINITELY a very good sign that he has no intention of leaving.

Well, if it does turn out to be true there could be little Josephs in the future and PNG is a much shorter road trip for the Grand-Joseph’s than SLC…just saying!

Indian Nation appreciates what Head Coach Jeff Joseph has accomplished in only 4 yrs of his HC career.

SLC is a possible example of what HC frustration may look like. Points out how extremely difficult it is to win a high school state championship in a coaching career. Riley Doge was the fastest Texas high school coach to win 100 games and yet a state championship did not come.

In 2024 Southlake Carroll was 15-1 and lost 17-24 to Vandegrift in finals. In 2025 SLC had 19 key returning starters coming back from the 2024 team including numerous D1 college commitments. SLC lost in the semifinals 44-57 to their comparable SOC nemesis DeSoto (three state championships in five years)

2026 may be a rebuilding year for the next HC of SLC due to heavy graduation losses.

Regarding Todd Dodge at Lovejoy (16-9) , Lovejoy has one of the smallest enrollments of 1493 in a Region 2 District 6 mock realignment in 2026. Power house Celina (14-1) moves up from 4AD1. Prosper Richland (9-4) drops down from 5AD1. Anna (10-3) remains.

Lovejoy (6-5) was the fourth place district finisher in 2025. Mellisa (11-3) and Prosper Walnut Grove (12-1) have both moved up and out.

5AD2 Region 2 has SOC, Texarkana, and Midlothian heritage as play off challengers.
