Being a multi-decade UT football fan, I have earned my stripes and right to say that I am disappointed with the UT football program overall, and find myself losing interest in even watching the games. My current, greatest reason for watching them is to see a talented PN-G grad continue his football career. But like Dustin Long at A&M back in 2000-2002, he is not seeing a similar level of commitment that he personally brought to the university. Being the recruiting machine that UT and other major programs are, they are too often quick to undeservedly promote the talents of the latest recruit (B. Robinson) over proven talent and accomplishment of recent recruits (RJ). And in the case of RJ, slow to recognize that he has shown to be a better option than starting RB Keontay Ingram in every category. All that after giving up his dream of playing QB to immediately help the program by switching to running back and excelling despite having no experience at the position.
So I have lost enthusiasm for UT Longhorn football, or backing Tom Herman as head coach. The guy has proven to be all talk and no walk. He has proven to possess more unearned self-confidence than ability. I’ll look for and watch the RJ highlights and wish him the best, but will commit less time to watching UT games or following the team as I have enthusiastically done for decades. There are big problems in Austin TX and UT fans are fed up.
If RJ ever decides to transfer, I’ll follow that team.
