Peevey left BMT West Brook for LCM. Says alot for BISD that a coach who went to the SC game two years ago would bail for a school 2 classifications lower. I am sure the AD title plays a large role in that. The BISD has never treated its coaches fairly and it shows. Interested to see if any Indians coaches try and apply for these gigs. In the past Coach Faircloths staff has been in high demand for other HC jobs.

No comment other than the problems there have all been in the news for years. And the fact that, according to public records, Beaumont ISD head coaching jobs have been one of the lowest paying gigs in the state.

2018 - Class 6A Division II

Todd Dodge, Austin Westlake: $150,000

John King, Longview: $133,675

Gregory McCaig, Cypress Creek: $119,860

Kenneth Plunk, Amarillo Tascosa: $114,672

Matt Meekins, Spring Westfield: $104,030

David Branscom, San Antonio Brandeis: $97,783

Jason Tucker, Haltom: $97,722

Eric Peevey, Beaumont West Brook: $86,000

AVERAGE: $112,967.75

"The lowest-paid remaining was Eric Peevey, the head football coach of West Brook in Beaumont, Texas. At 13-3, Peevey’s Bruins lost to the Longview Lobos in the Class 6A Division II State Championship game. Peevey was only in his second season coaching West Brook, and the team finished 7-3 the prior season."
That's pretty sad

WOW, I can see why Peevey left. He's obviously a good coach to get to SC game in 2nd year at a 6A D2 school. Proud for him and hope he turns LC-M into a powerhouse.

I really think you guys need more information. Peevey didn't leave for pay. If you didn't know about the pay scale for HC in BISD, I'll inform you. HC's in BISD get a stipend. With Peevey's stipend, he was making right at or over 100k. Peevey also didn't have ANY issues with BISD administration (contrary to popular belief ) and had a great feeder system in place, so also, it wasn't because of lack of talent. Coach left simply because he wanted to be closer to home, which is only 18 miles from LC-M vs 31 miles (plus the horrible IH-10 traffic) from his home to Beaumont. In conclusion, it may be somewhat better to obtain correct information vs. basing information from past situations that occurred almost 10 years ago.

Interesting. Stipends are common for coaches in all districts. Those are typically included in the public record as referenced from 3 years ago. If that wasn’t included in the referenced report from 2018 then that author should reconsider their sources.

I’ve heard the low head coach pay discussed for years in various public forums and from BISD school fans AND insiders. So I personally did not question the referenced article. I also know former employees who fled the district. If those reasons no longer exist then that’s terrific for BISD employees and taxpayers.

Good luck to Coach Peevey. He did a great job with leading Westbrook to the finals and sounds like he’ll enjoy being closer to home.

Im happy for him as well. I respected what he did over there at WB. I’ll be following him at LC-M.

Hoping that Beaumont football can rediscover the levels it once attained. BISD was known across the country for producing NFL talent.

“IN 1974 BEAUMONT TEXAS WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE FOOTBALL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD BY ABC’S WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS, AND HOWARD COSELL AS IT’S SPOKESMAN. AT THAT POINT IN TIME, THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TEXAS HAD PRODUCED MORE NFL PLAYERS THAN ANY OTHER CITY IN THE WORLD.”

Very interesting read. Thanks for posting this. Ohh yea. We DON’T claim Kelly.

Why not? Kelly has been in Beaumont since 1895. Great academic school.
Kelly is indeed a good academic school. Just not too keen on their recruiting methods. They routinely talk crap about the BISD schools as their sales pitch, amongst other things.

Did not know that. Not sure why a good athlete would necessarily WANT to be recruited by Kelly.

Not sure if Peevey turns LCM into a powerhouse, but he sure will change the culture there, from what I hear it has already started.

As long as he gets the kids to a point where they’re reaching their potential and competing, and building character and fortitude, it’s all good. Anything beyond that like a deep playoff run depends on a great group of athletes coming through there any given year.
