SOFTBALL PLAYERS

I am very proud of the jv and varsity softball teams. I just have one concern. I have attended several jv and varsity ball games. There was numerous games where i didn't see all of the girls get an opportunity to play. I have been around softball and baseball for many years and i've never seen the quality of players not getting the opportunity to set foot on the field. Even in blowouts, players aren't getting to be on the field and they are working just as hard as the other players. This needs to be brought to coach fontenot's attention. I don't know if she understands this or not, but letting the players who don't play at all might help them next year. There is no reason during these blowout games that these kids can't go out and show what they can do.

Bingo
Is there a UIL rule that says everyone has to play?
Sounds like a disgruntled parent.

I hate this every player must play and everyone must receive a trophy or award. It wasn't like then when I was little and I turned out just fine. Kids needs to learn to be a team player and that there is a winner and loser.

BADNDN,

I am sure you know the answer to the question you asked, but just in case you really don't... No, there is no UIL rule that says everyone has to play. That is Little League. In UIL and above, the best 9 take the field and some of them don't bat. They have a DH. My son played on JV and got playing time when we were seriously winning or were playing REALLY weak teams. What did he get out of it? The understanding that he needs to work on his game and the sense of accomplishment when the team won! He knows that he contributed greatly to the team.
