When you don’t practice something on a consistent basis, you don’t get better. PNG never practices good hard tackling. My son played a few years ago and I would go watch practice when I could. Not once did I ever see them hit anybody. They would walk up to each other wrap up like they were hugging and let go. Like I said, you can’t get better if you don’t practice. When I played we had tackling drills Monday thru Wednesday.
A team plays like they practice. And what you just described is the downfall of the defense. Same goes on the offensive side of the ball too. Imagine how good this team could be if they were physical.

Apparently some high school teams practice ‘thudding’ instead of full speed hitting and tackling. Players hit but don’t go to the ground.

Rules now limit full contact practice time to minutes per week. So unless teams adapt practice routines effectively, they will struggle come game time. Must be difficult to coach these days. It’s not the same game that many of us experienced. I remember football as pure controlled violence where you could destroy people and not go to jail for it.

Texas City just registered about 1/3 of the total points they had scored all year in this game. And the running back increased his season rushing yardage by about 30% in this game.

Port Neches-Groves defenses have allowed 300 or more points in a season only 6 times since 1925.
