La Porte vs Port Neches-Groves (September 12)

After playing road games for two consecutive years, La Porte opens up their state-of-the-art Bulldog Stadium with three home games, the last of which comes against fellow Bay Area power Port Neches-Groves.

How does PN-G’s defensive-minded head coach, Jeff Joseph, account for star running back Sean Simon, who broke out with over 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns as a freshman? His defensive line will be smaller in 2025 after losing star tackle Jonathan Hernandez (Southern Arkansas). Rangy linebacker Jaxin Winfrey (87 tackles, 15 tackles for loss) will test his athleticism against Simon.

I guess the Indians will try to handle LaPorte’s running back in a similar fashion as LP will handle PN-G’s break out, star 2024 sophomore back Tyson Henry. And the other backs who will soon make their presence felt for the Indians.

LP will be a huge test. They have the ingredients for a deep run and, if they get a few breaks, they have a shot to play for the 5A-DI championship. A big, mobile, and experienced OL returns, a strong run game, and a stingy defense. Those ingredients should sound familiar to PN-G fans. Those same ingredients have been good to PN-G for the past three years. Coach Berneathy at LP is a good coach. His DC, Marcus McGraw, is an up and comer for a HC position. I like what LP has been doing...new facilities, good coaching staff, and a good group of kids coming through the system. As I said, that all sounds familiar to PN-G fans. Should be a great game. Go Indians!

This will be one to see. La Porte was missing some players last year and based on their late-season results were still getting things in place when they faced us. I think they’ll hit the ground running this season. Our defense better be much better tackling in the open field this year.
